memdisk : booting OpenBSD and NetBSD
...sing the same method, I couldn't get into booting netbsd nor openbsd. The boot process seems to hang up, in those two cases, when the second stage native bootloader try to load the kernel (i'm not absolutely sure about this). The native first stage bootloader works fine in both case. So I supect a bug in memdisk (well, something that makes it differs from a bios in the os viewpoint, shouldn't happen...). I use the standard netbsd's 'rescue-tiny.fs' floppy image (you can try it at: ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.6.2/i386/installation/floppy/rescue-tiny.fs) and the...

Ubuntu server won't restart
...ne when if I just cut the power and turn it back on without the UPS connected. If I understand this correctly the script /etc/init.d/halt is supposed to poweroff the UPS to cut the power to the server rather than letting it halt gracefully, and in that way make use of the BIOS power setting? I supect that this doesn't happen in my server and now I need help trouble shooting this. My configurations files are as follows: /etc/nut/nut.conf: MODE=netserver /etc/nut/ups.conf [UPS] driver = usbhid-ups port = auto /etc/nut/upsd.users [zem_mon] password = password allowfrom =...

buffer_get_bignum2: negative numbers not supported
...yesterday when we replaced one of our Slackware-9 machines by a Slackware-10 one. Slackware-9 contained OpenSSH 3.5p1 while Slackware-10 has OpenSSH 3.8.1p1. Now the same keys that worked before do not work anymore and OpenSSH fails with buffer_get_bignum2: negative numbers not supported I first supected that my smartcard-modification were the reason and I double-checked the way I deliver the smartcards public key to PuTTY. Maybe I forgot to prepend a 0x00 byte to a modulus starting with 0x80. But I did not. Here's the relevant output from sshd -ddd: debug1: userauth-request for user root s...
