Patch: --drop-suid Remove suid/sgid from target files
The attached patch adds an option --drop-suid which caused rsync to drop setuid/setgid permissions from the destination files. ie, even if the source file is setuid, the target file will not be. Added as we want to rsync the same files to machines both inside and outside our firewalls. For machines inside the firewall some files should be s...

Using by() and stacking back sub-data frames to one data frame
...s, and the data frame is big, the process is slow. So I've been trying to speed up the process using by(), but I got stuck at the point where I want to stack back the sub- data frames, and I was wondering whether someone could help me out. Here is an example: <-- > y <- data.frame(suid = c(rep(1074034,16),rep(1123003,4)), month = rep(c(12,1,2,3),5), esr = c(6,2,2,2,1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,9,9,9,9,2,2,2,2)) > by(y,y$month, function(x)return(x)) y$month: 1 suid month esr 2 1074034 1 2 6 1074034 1 1 10 1074034 1 2 14 107403...

Vulnerability of suid/sgid programs using libXt
...Net Access Abstract A buffer overflow was found in the resource handling section of the X11 system (libXt). As this is a problem with libXt iself, every program using libXt is affected, including core programs such as xterm and programs derived from it. Of course only suid and sgid programs can be exploited to gain access to gain extra priviledges. Permanent Solution The permanent solution requires fixing the libXt. It is recommended that you utilize temporary solution. This buffer overflow does not exist in XFree86 3.3 code. It is recommended t...

Default behavior of setting SUID bit in directories.
Hello. In the Samba by Example book theres a section called "Effect of Setting File and Directory SUID/SGID Permissions Explained", that shows an example of the effect of SUID/SGID bits. The SGID bit when setted in directories makes the files inherit the group owner, but I couldn't make the SUID bit on directories work, making files inherit the owner. The documentation says that,...

suid files and bsd

pam_mount: /etc/fstab or suid root smbmount?
...va.com.br/~epx/pam_mount/ to automatically mount smb shares from a Windows 2000 server at login. (pam_mount is a pam module that grabs the passwd you use for login, xdm, ssh, or any other pam module and uses it with smbmount to automatically mount shares when you log in.) The problem is, mount is suid root but if you try to mount something not in /etc/fstab it says "mount: only root can do that". So one solution is to put a bunch of entries in /etc/fstab like: none /home/username/data smb user 0 0 none /home/username/public...

--{enable/disable}-suid-ssh removed, rhosts auth gone when UID != 0
Hi, According to ChangeLog someone "(bal)" removed -{enable/disable}-suid-ssh from configure (dating from 2002/06/07). Don't know the reason, probably this has something to do with PrivilegeSeparation. Consequence is: Users with UID != 0 are no longer able to allocate privileged ports, sshd answers "Rhosts Authentication disabled, originating port will not...

ACLs, groups and suid-bit?
...lo, I have users in Samba AD with uid- and gidnumbers. I also have group objects with gidNumbers. I have a Samba member server (all servers Samba 4.9.5-Debian) that have one share and a lot of directories. The directory permissions are set as a specific group as owner, and the group write and suid bit are set. drwxrwsr-x 2 root thegroup 4096 Sep 8 15:25 groupdir This worked fine in Samba 3. However, now when people are storing files in the dir the file doesn't get group ownership 'thegroup' nor does it get write permission bit set. Is there a new and improved way to acco...
