Active directory sites & subnets
Thanks for the answer ligpanda101!! For DC's that are not present on a subnet, assign the subnet to the closet > site to a DC Visibly via RSAT, how would that look? subnet-up invocations
Hello, I'm confused by the subnet-up calls made by tinc. I was assuming that I'd be called once when it connects to another node. However, subnet-up appears to be called much more often than that. For example, I have the following configuration: ,---- | $ cat tinc.conf | ConnectTo = spitzer | Name = chronos | Mode = switch | | $ cat hbt/hosts/spitzer | address =

Nmbd errors & not starting since upgrade to 3.0.2a?
I have recently upgraded my Redhat 7.3 server to Fedora FC1 with all related updates. I also upgraded my samba version from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2a. It now seems that my nmbd daemon will not start & subsequently I cannot log in from any Windows client as the netbios server name PDC is not found I think. Before this problem started, I noticed that in order for my DNS ping requests from Windows clients

Help linking subnets
Hi, after trying for days I ended up with a working tinc configurazion of 2 subnets, now my goal is to add 2 more subnets and comunicate. I might seem dumb at this point but honestly I don't work in IT or Networking stuff, and so I dont have that deep knowledge. A little explanation of my configuration is HOST A (VPN server) Public IP: 1.2.3.4 tun0 Subnet = 192.168.10.0/24 tun0 IP =

Active directory sites & subnets
Hello, Reading about, specifically in the wiki <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites> link, says the following about subnets. "Create a subnet entry for all subnets in your network and assign them to a site:" The subnet on which our DCs are configured is a public IP block, but the client machines are in a subnet with a private address block. Do I need to

lower bound of prefixlength in host subnet ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Analyzing a routing problem in a tinc net I found, that a declaration of a class-A subnet (x.0.0.0/8) in a host configuration file is ignored, e.g. Subnet = x.0.0.0/8 Looking at the subnet lists produced with kill -USR2 does not show this subnet in the log (but all others, that are configured in the same file). Splitting the subnet in two /9

urgent TEQL problem
OK, I spammed the mailing list recently, but I will be fired if I can''t solve the problem today. (just kidding, but I did waste lots of time on it :( ) The common configuration for teql is for two computers connected directly with two links. My topology is a little different: one link is connected directly, but the other is connected through a gateway. My problem is teql can''t

Subnet authority and trust
Hello, How does tincd determine the subnet(s) of other remote nodes? Does tincd read its copies of the hosts file and parse and follow the subnet information contained in the local files? Or does tincd solely trust the subnet information dynamically advertised by each remote node? In my experimentation, it seems that: a) tincd reads its own subnet(s) from its copy of its own host file, but

WINS isn't working correctly and I think somebody is trying to exploit a security hole...
Pardon the long log file but I'm fairly new to WINS servers and probably don't know what I'm doing. We've have two subnets (lets call them xxx.xxx.xxx.??? and yyy.yyy.yyy.??) I have one samba/linux server on both networks xxx.xxx.xxx.2 and yyy.yyy.yyy.2. xxx.xxx.xxx.2 is set up to be a domain master and yyy.yyy.yyy.2 is setup to be a local master with xxx.xxx.xxx.2 as its master.

nmbd Problem
Hello, I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36. Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain). smbclient -L server from server works fine. One domain w/ multiple subnets. Do a "join" for each subnet?
We've got Samba 2.2.2 up and running fine on an RS/6000 (AIX) machine w/ NT authentication. We have one domain w/ multiple subnets, and need users on these different subnets to have access to the shares on this machine. We've tested from a different subnet than the one we originally ran smbpasswd on, and it fails (prompting for the passwd to the share...when it works fine from the

segfault in current svn
hi there ! the current version of tinc crashes with a segfault. it seems, as if has to to with fact, that i don`t have configured any subnets.... if the client tries to start up subnet_update() ist called for myself. the for iteration does not get an entry (because the subnet avl-tree is empty). the later call of net2str causes a segfault, because it gets an empty subnet and tries to access

Hi all. I have a problem. I'm trying to let samba run as WINS server and as domain master. But if I run nmbd in debug mode it says: dump workgroup on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET: netmask= 10.8.0.1: FREAKYYDE(1) current master browser = UNKNOWN MASTER 40899a03 (master server) the servers hostname is master. i've tried to explicitly set it in the config but it

What exactly is the meaning of "Subnet" parameter in tinc/$NETNAME/hosts/$SOMEHOSTNAME?
Hello, I am not very good at linux networking. I have read tinc documentation multiple times and I still don't understand what the "Subnet = ..." directive does in /etc/tinc/$NET_NAME/hosts/$HOST_NAME Right now I have a simple virtual lan organized with tinc, and I use the following in every device's config file (replacing the last part of the address): # This computer will

I cannot print across my subnets using microsoft win9networking. I have two subnets 192.168.0 & 192.168.1 of which the linux running samba server is the router using two ethernet cards . Workstations on both subnets share their printers from win95. Win95 machines from both sides of the subnet can telnet to both ethernet cards on the server and can also ping all machines across the two

Help with multiple subnets
I have two subnets in may LAN 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24. Both subnets go out to the Internet through a Linux box acting as a gateway, so the gateway has one interface in each subnet (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1). In both subnets I have Windows and Linux machines and I want to configure SMB networking using a workgroup (not a domain), so one workgroup for more than one subnet. I know that
