Manually creating folders from terminal
I'm trying to use a script to create a mailbox structure. I'm aware that the structure should look like:
~/.maildir/.INBOX/{cur,tmp,new}
~/.maildir/.INBOX.Subfolder1/{cur,tmp,new}
~/.maildir/.INBOX.Subfolder2/{cur,tmp,new}
~/.maildir/.INBOX.Subfolder2.Subsubfolder1/{cur,tmp,new}
...
I have tried manually making those directories and using the "maildirmake.dovecot" command that my system has. I feel that in the past, folders I have made this way worked. However, now none are showing up in my...

Permissions incorrectly ordered on Windows after disabling inheritance
...he share "rootfolder"
3) Create a subfolder "subfolder1" under "rootfolder"
4) Un-check "Include inheritable permissions from this object's
parent" in the windows security settings dialog for Windows Explorer on
the root folder
5) Create a subfolder "subfolder2" under "subfolder1"
6) Right-click with Windows Explorer and attempt to edit the
permissions of "subfolder2". Windows Explorer pops up a message stating
"The permissions on subfolder2 are incorrectly ordered, which may cause
some entries to be ineffective."

convert non-standard mbox to maildir
...ay through the PST.
So, I took aid4mail and it converted the PST to mbox wihtout any problem.
But now, I have a directory structure, filled with mbox mailboxes.
Like:
INBOX
INBOX/mailbox
INBOX/subfolder
INBOX/subfolder/mailbox
INBOX/subfolder/subsubfolder
INBOX/subfolder/subsubfolder/mailbox
INBOX/subfolder2
INBOX/subfolder2/mailbox
etc.
This differs from normal mbox setup, but given the fact that there are
both folders AND messages below inbox, this is indeed the only useful way
to do it.
But now I cannot convert this to maildir using either dovecot or mb2md,
since it's not the usual mbox setu...

Public Mailbox & ACLs
...spool/maildir - main public folder (contains a few .qmail files to
redirect mail to the correct subfolder)
/var/spool/maildir/Support - support public folder (a public folder rather
than a maildir)
/var/spool/maildir/Support/.SubFolder1 - support sub folder 1 (a maildir)
/var/spool/maildir/Support/.SubFolder2 - support sub folder 2 (another
maildir)
/var/spool/maildir/System
/var/spool/maildir/System/.SubFolder1
/var/spool/maildir/System/.SubFolder2
I couldn't get the namespace working correctly to just have 1 folder called
"Shared" (you just got an empty folder when trying to subscribe)....

Sharing nested folders / maildir variations?
...39;t understand the reasoning behind avoiding recursion,
honestly. If somebody wants to enlighten me on that one, it would be
appreciated.
i.e. instead of:
.Folder/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder.SubFolder1/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder.SubFolder1.foo/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder.SubFolder1.bar/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder.SubFolder2/{cur,new,tmp}
We'd have:
.Folder/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder/.SubFolder1/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder/.SubFolder1/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder/.SubFolder1/.foo/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder/.SubFolder1/.bar/{cur,new,tmp}
.Folder/.SubFolder2/{cur,new,tmp}
That would both solve my issue and be a lot more convenient when...

how to enable automatic sharing of folders added/created in an already shared folder hiearchy?
I'm running
dovecot --version
2.3.11.3 (502c39af9)
folder sharing is enabled & working.
as long as I manually enable enable sharing for each folder/subfolder.
e.g., if I enable sharing for each of:
sharedtopfolder
subfolder1
subfolder2
then all's good -- shared-to users can access according to set permissions.
BUT, if I drag any folder under that shared-hierarchy
e.g.,
sharedtopfolder
subfolder1
subfolder2
+ subfolder3
+ subfolder4
the just-added
subfolder3
subfolder4
are NOT shared.
They CAN be -- manually...

DoveCot 2.0.9: Problem with some Clients and separator (migrate from Cyrus)
hi,
we had to move from a old dieing Sparc very quickly our Cyrus IMAP Users
to Dovecot. Most things works, but some Clients (like Evolution or
Thunderbird) are strange. Our separator in Dovecot2 is "^", the
mailboxes on the filesystem are something like
"INBOX.subfolder1.subfolder2", but in TB and Evo I see
INBOX^subfolder1^subfolder^
In Roundcube Webmail, I have just a normal tree, as I expected.
I used cyrus2dovecot.pl for converting.
On Evolution I deleted the IMAP Profile and recreated it, and that was
working, but it isn't a workaround for TB
So, how can I fi...

win2K migration
Dear All,
I am trying to migrate a win2k file server to a linux box running samba.
The folder structure on the win2k server has as follows:
topfolder1
+------subforder1
+--------subsubfolder1
+--------subsubfolder2
+------subfolder2
+--------subsubfolder3
+--------subsubfolder4
etc
All users on the win2k box map the "topfolder1" so when they open the
win explorer they can see the
folder structure as shown above. However, they can access o...

How to see folders/subfolders/emails through imap
...subfolder". Instead I get "folder.subfolder" dirs on the fs.
I tried to set the separator to "/", but that does not help at all.
Is there some easy way to configure dovecot to display:
<somedir>/<folder1>/<subfolder1>/new/files...
<subfolder2>/new/files...
<subfolder3>/new/files...
according to fs layout on some imap-client (like thunderbird)?
