Possible Bug: Can't copy from Mac OS X to Samba Version 3.0.2a-Debian?
So I'm trying to copy a file called "Stuffit Standard 8.0.2 X
Installer.dmg" from my Panther workstation to a Debian i386 server,
running Samba 3.0.2a as packaged under Debian.
There's plenty of disk space left, I'm looking at a folder full of
files with long names, some containing spaces. When I drag the file
from my workst...

Updated Mac support
I have a zip file containing updated Macintosh support for Vorbis on
my company's web site at the following URL:
http://bDistributed.com/projects/vorbis-mac/MacVorbisUpdatesBeta3.zip
I used Metrowerks ClassWrangler to build the file because StuffIt
insisted on MacBinary-encoding the project files. StuffIt Expander
seems to have issues with expanding it, so I'm not sure if it's OK or
not. For the other Mac developers I put a StuffIt 5 archive at
http://bDistributed.com/projects/vorbis-mac/MacVorbisUpdatesBeta3.sit
I also sent...

which part of LLVM they want to hack on).
So, I think what we want is a full build environment anyway to satisfy case 2
and generate the binary distribution for case 1. Ideally what we want is a
build system that can produce an msi installer on windows, rpms on RH, Solaris
pkg on Sun, StuffIt on Mac (or whatever they use these days). However, tgz or
zip is probably sufficient for binary distributions for a while.
My point here is that we have 98% of what we need for *all* Unix platforms, the
only missing link is Windows. So, why should we bastardize both worlds?

creating packages for Mac
...on Linux (ugh). All I really want to do is
provide the packages in a form that the students can unzip (or whatever)
reasonably simply. I could try to look at the form in which the Mac stuff
is provided and replicate that file structure (which would also mean
finding a Linux application to create Stuffit archives), but I'm not sure
where to start.
I guess the other possibility is convincing one of my students to
download the machinery for creating binary from source packages on their
machines.
Any ideas? Has anyone done this?

rsync HFS+ -> UFS2
...moe:/backup /Users/Charles/mnt
I recently had to restore these files, and not all of them survived
the trip.
I should mention that I did not use rsync to do the restore. I
mounted the nfs share on the FreeBSD machine, and copied them over to
the Mac.
These file types are a mixed bag, text, stuffit
(.sit), .zip, .dmg, .cdr.
They range in size from a few kb to > 6GB.
The errors I received when trying open some of the restored files all
said, "codec overrun".
What would be the correct strategy for using rsync in this situation?
I'm currently trying - $ rsync -auv --stats...

using rsync with Mac OS X
Rsync looks like a good tool for keeping files synchronized between two
computers, such as a desktop and laptop. However, Mac OS uses a forked
file system, with the second fork storing data critical to some files
(such as applications) as well as type and creator information matching
files up with the appropriate apps and file types.
Mac OS X comes with a command-line utility called ditto

Proposal of "Resizable" javascript library
Hi, All.
I''ve developed the small javascript library to make the widgets
"resizable". Please try attached file or following URL
URL: http://221.112.61.214/~kzk/others/mixi/resizer.html
Now I wish script.aculo.us developers to merge this into the
"script.aculo.us". Is there any chance of merge? Is this a right
place to ask this question?
Thanks in advance.

Gzip compression for ZFS
Adam,
With the blog entry[1] you''ve made about gzip for ZFS, it raises
a couple of questions...
1) It would appear that a ZFS filesystem can support files of
varying compression algorithm. If a file is compressed using
method A but method B is now active, if I truncate the file
and rewrite it, is A or B used?
2) The question of whether or not to use bzip2 was raised in
the
