[Q] How to fit data to a straight line
Dear R users
I have a question about how to fit data to a straight line.
I tried nls to do it, but it didn't work.
The reason I want to fit data to a straight line is that I need to compare
AIC or BIC values of the two models (a straight line model vs a nonlinear
curve model). Fitting data to a nonlinear curve is straightforward, but I
could not figure out how to fit the data to a straight

Straight-quotes for usage and examples sections in PDF docs?
Is there any way to ensure that quotation marks are left as straight
quotes and not converted to curly quotes in the \usage and \examples
sections when the pdf versions of the docs are created?

Straight-line fitting with errors in both coordinates
Hi All,
I want to fit a straight line into a group of two-dimensional data points with
errors in both x and y coordinates. I found there is an algorithm provided in
"NUMERICAL RECIPES IN C" http://www.library.cornell.edu/nr/bookcpdf/c15-3.pdf
I'm wondering if there is a similar function for this implemented in R. And
how can I change the objective function, from example, from sum

ResponseTimeout, Straight to operator?
Hi,
My client wants incoming callers who do not press a digit to go straight
to the operator. Does anyone have an idea of how this could be done?
I've looked for some examples, but I'm still not clear on it.
Here's the relevant portion of my extensions.conf:
-------
; Wait 15 seconds for an answer (pick up the local phone)
exten => s,1,Wait,2
; Answer the phone

Any pitfalls updating straight from 3.0.34 to 3.5.2?
Okay, so I've just put the sernet repo file in my yum.repos.d directory and a yum update will elevate my samba server to the latest version. Is there any pitfall that is out there that I can avoid before yum updating.
Centos 5.3

I still have my samba3-3.0.34 packages squirreled away so I can force downgrade

7960 straight through?
if i go off hook and dial 666 from an internal sipura spa-x000
(at extn 141), it rings straight through to extn 666.
using the same dialplan, from a cisco 7960 with 7.1 sip code
(at extn 142), i have to
go off hook
hit NewCall
punch 142 (or any valid extn in the dialplan)
hit Dial
then dial 666
wtf?

Using graphics straight from R into published articles
Hi,
I have been working with R for the past couple of years; analyzing data and
producing some graphics.
I was just wondering if people use graphics from R straight into articles or
are they always edited in some way; fonts, headers, axis, color etc? Using
photoshop or some other programs?
I would like to think it is possible, better and more profession to do it
all in R.
I tried google and

Rails on straight CGI - doable?
I''m planning on dipping my toe into the rails ocean after having
lurked here for a bit. From what I gather, rails *WILL* work on a
straight CGI based server setup, it''s just slow, right?
Since this is going to be for my own enlightenment, I just need to
confirm(/deny) it''ll work at all right now; I''ll work on the "fast"
later.

Extension never ring, goes straight to VM
I installed a new * server and copied the sip.conf and extensions.conf
from my existing setup to the new box. I created my outbound trunk
with a different broadvoice account and am able to dial out without
issue. I am able to dial all extensions but I go straight to voicemail
without any ringing, this happens to both local and outside numbers
calling my extensions. I have the correct firewall

one extension goes straight to voicemail, others don't
i have one extension going straight to voicemail, while others that are
configured identically don't, so i don't think it's an overall config
problem. nor do i think it's a callerID problem. maybe it's an enduser
operation that i can't find documentation on?

x, y for point of intersection
Hi everyone,
?
I am trying to get a point of intersection between a
polyline and a straight line ?.. and get the x and y coordinates of this point.
For exemplification consider this:

set.seed(123)

k1 <-rnorm(100, mean=1.77, sd=3.33)
?k1 <- sort(k1)
q1 <- rnorm(100, mean=2.37, sd=0.74)
q1 <- sort(q1, decreasing = TRUE)
plot(k1, q1, xlim <- c((min(k1)-5),

source a script file straight from a subversion repository
Hi useRs
I'm trying to figure out how to source
an R script file straight from a subversion
repository, without having to put a copy
of the script into the local working directory.
Has anyone done this?
Something such as
source(file = paste("svn://myrepo.xxx.org/opt/svn/repos/",
"/Projects/SMcode/tags/v1.0/SMfuns.R",
sep = ""))

nls, convergence and starting values
"in non linear modelling finding appropriate starting values is
something like an art"... (maybe from somewhere in Crawley , 2007) Here
a colleague and I just want to compare different response models to a
null model. This has worked OK for almost all the other data sets except
that one (dumped below). Whatever our trials and algorithms, even
subsetting data (to check if some singular

Mitigating straight-line speculation vulnerability CVE-2020-13844
Hi,
A new speculative cache side-channel vulnerability has been published at
https://developer.arm.com/support/arm-security-updates/speculative-processor-vulnerability/downloads/straight-line-speculation,
named "straight-line speculation”, CVE-2020-13844.
In this email, I'd like to explain the toolchain mitigation we've prepared
to mitigate against this vulnerability for AArch64.

No caller ID, straight to voicemail
Hi,
I am having a problem with inbound calls (from a SIP VIOP provider).
When caller ID information is not available, the calls go straight to
voicemail. We are using a mix of either Sipura 841 phones or SPAs.
When the call is passed to the phone/SPA, Asterisk reports "Got SIP
Response 406 "Not Acceptable" back from..."
I have searched a while now and can't seem to

Samba and trusted domains - need to get my story straight
Hello all,
Samba 3.0.1 on Sun Solaris 5.9.
I need to get my story straight before I ask the people with the necessary
access rights to do the Samba setup.
I would appreciate it if someone could validate my story below.
Thanks!
Simon.
The situation:
* There are 2 domains:
- EMEA (PDC=EMEAD01,BDC=EMEAD02)
- NLRESOURCES (PDC=NLRESOD01,BDC=NLRESOD02)
* Users have accounts on the EMEA domain.

xml builder using straight xml within the rxml template
I was wondering how can I insert straight xml, ie "<a>test</a>" inside
the builder syntax.
For example, i want to be able to do something like this
xml.A do
xml.B do
"<a>test</a>"
end
end
should give:
<A>
<B>
<a>
test
</a>
</B>
</A>
Anybody have a clue on this one?

Postfix Ignoring lmtp, delivering straight to maildir
Hello Doug,
First off since this is a postfix configuration problem I beleive it would be better suited in the postfix mailing list. The way I understand it is that you are editing the virtual transport map when you should be changing the local transport map because you are delivering to a normal, system user, not a virtual user. Try and see if that works for you.

[RFC] design doc for straight-line scalar optimizations
Hi,
As you may have noticed, since last year, we (Google's CUDA compiler team)
have contributed quite a lot to the effort of optimizing LLVM for CUDA
programs. I think it's worthwhile to write some docs to wrap them up for
two reasons.
1) Whoever wants to understand or work on these optimizations has some
detailed docs instead of just source code to refer to.
2) RFC on how to improve
