Who would use Asterisk SS7?
Hello. I am new to this forum. If this issue has been discussed already,
please inform me, but my STFW have indicated that it has not.
If SS7 were available on * would it make commercial sense to use it? There
are case studies on the web (courtesy of the Death Star :->) for ISPs with
10,000+ subscriber lines showing clear cost savings in transitioning from PRI
to SS7 controlled IMT. My ques...

Logging on the rsync server from a client connect

rsync server):
rsync -vvaz -e ssh /usr/local/cvsroot/ padlock:"/usr/local/cvsroot"
Should I get rsync logs on padlock?
A 'yes' or 'no' will do. If it's 'yes' then it's something dumb on my end
and I will do some more digging.
Oh, yes, I have RTFM and STFW. I think my head is going to explode.

Ping an external server through a disabled provider.
...disabled, LSM is unable to ping from the associated interface.
I understand why it happens : when `shorewall disable isp1` is called, Shorewall flushes the routing table isp1, and removes the nexthop in the balance table.
So when I want to ping 8.8.8.8 from eth1, no rule allows it.
I''ve STFW''d, but the only trick I found is to add a default route to eth1 in the default table.
The problem is, this only works with 1 ISP, as I can''t add 3 default routes.
So what is the best way to manage this ?
Thanks for your attention.

Custom "Windows Welcome message"
Hello - I running Samba as a PDC on FC6 with roaming profiles. I need to setup a custom Windows logon/welcome message... to tell users want they can expect using this domain. Is it also possible to place different PDF files on the users desktop when he or she logs on, but only referencing one source file, so I don't have a copy for each user?
What is the best approach?
Thank You.

Redhat ACL support
Hi,
I'm trying to setup a RedHat 8 fileserver, it must work seamlessly within
our 2000/NT network. After some research, I believe the first thing I need
to do is install ACL support.
I tried doing this once, didn't go well, had to reinstall RedHat.
What files do I need and from where, to install ACL support for RedHat 8?

troubleshooting unexpected disconnects
...The syslog
does not display any rsync related messages (it works thou, if my .conf is
wrong, the complaints end up there)
If there is any info I could, but did not provide, please correct me. I
did read the archives, for as much as I understand it, (Im no coder, just
a sysadmin) and I did RTFM and STFW.
Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.

[OT] - Why should I answer a Newbie question, therethick!
...newbs will know to go there first?
Are you going to moderate it? Someone has to actually answer the
questions you know, if a newb only list is going to exist.
Look, don't answer lame questions if you don't want to. Flaming a newb
for being a newb is just mean. (they will eventually RTFM or STFW or
they will fail). This is the way of the open source community.
Otherwise, they can hire one of the many companies that have sprung up
around supporting open source products (tons for asterisk specifically,
some of you probably even get paid this way) why do you think redhat
makes so much on su...

Short answer: yes
Unless you specified a log file it will try to use syslog.
Check your syslog.conf to see what daemon.* will do.

Mac "DAVE" server + Linux samba 2.2.8a client = missing first char
...um." But...
The first character of every filename is missing!
For example: the file named ".DS_Store" shows up as:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 21508 Aug 22 15:21 DS_Store*
The folder named "Cats" shows up as:
drwxr-xr-x 1 root 4096 Jun 22 12:28 ats/
I STFW for some answers but found none. I also RTFS (read the fine
source) but could not determine why this was happening. Any
suggestions on how I can fix it? Has anyone seen this behavior
before?
Thanks,
Dave

interfacing C into R and R packages
Hi,
I would like to interface a C code into R. Is it possible to use in the C code, functions from a R package (for instance, to use pmvnorm within loops in the C code and to call the result in a R function)?

The server couldn't find the message you requested.
Most probably your message list was out of date and the message has been
moved away or deleted (perhaps by another program accessing the same

The messages are not being moved out. In fact, I can delete one of those

SATA on Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MB
Hi Gang!
I've got this (now old) Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7N400 Pro2), I've had it
for just over 3 years.
I use it, so far, with only PATA devices.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a matched pair of SATA drives and when
I install Centos 5 (hopefully soon), building it with software raid (using
the two drives as mirrors of each other).
Now, I wouldn't have ever even thought of

Slow transfer file between Windows and Samba PDC (2.2.3a)
...t this:
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD flow-control, link ok
Sound good, huh?
Since people there are basic end user, I can't do any other test (FTP
one, NFS one, and so on). But the funny thing is that a copy
windows<->windows is far faster (more than 2 times faster). Same Switch.
Well, STFW, see FAQ, got some infos about MTU and SO_SNDBUF stuff. I've
change the SO_SNDBUF option, and use 16384 for value. A little better,
but still slow. I haven't found a clear information about the MTU
configuration and changes we must do for Samba. More, I read that
changing MTU under Windows...

business ssl certs for centos www and/or email servers
Although I know the basics about getting and installing web and mail server
ssl certs, I haven't had to "purchase" and do it "myself" for some time. i
always had someone else dealing with it.
I am wondering what you folks on the list are using on your centos web and
mail servers
:-)
Are you making your own or are you purchasing them from godaddy, thawte,
geotrust,
