matrix from sequences
Hi all, I have a data frame with sequences of x and y from a map. I would like to know it both ways: 1. How to make a matrix from that; 2. how to make a data frame of all points in a map. Probably it is a silly question, but please tell me where to read about it or tell me how to do it. Miha Staut

xgobi?
Hi all, As far as I understood from the documentation of xgobi. The package is intended to plot data in 3D (and more). Why if I enter example(xgobi) nothing displays even though the example calls also the xgobi command (yes I did load the library)? Do I need to install anything else for xgobi to work? I use R 1.6.1. on Windows 2000 platform or R 1.5.1 with RedHat 7.3 (none works). Miha

Automation of c()
Hi, I have around 300 files with the x, y and z coordinates of a DEM that I would like to join in a single data frame object. I know how to automate the import of the 300 data frames. in Bash ls > names in R names<-scan(names...) With rep() and data.frame() construct a series of read.table() commands, which you write to a file and execute them with source(). I do not know however how

Latin 2 encoding + fonts
Hi, In the FAQ I read about options to specify different fonts than the default ones for the console (in the file Rprofile) and for the graphical output (Rdevga). I would however like to replace Latin 1 with Latin 2 enconding for both (console and graphical) output in Windows and just graphical output in Linux. I guess it is possible but I did not find the way. How can I use the fonts

Samba and W2K printer issues
...eive an error spooling the document to the printer. I am connecting the printer through an TCP/IP port. I have checked permissions on the w2k side, and everything appears to be setup to allow printing. When I check the status of the spool on the linux side, the lock file is being generated, and the stauts shows the printer as being ready and available for printing. Is there some other way to fit an S shaped experimental variogram. Gaussian model would not fit that good, but at least is an approximation. thanks, Miha Staut

Bivariate interpolation
Hello, Is there any other bivariate pointwise interpolation command besides akima's interpp? I tried to search through the J. Baron's page without luck. The problem is that I have got regularly spaced data (in x and y) what is not acceptable for interpp. I am not very much interested in the method of interpolation as the data are dense and the error would not be to high. Use GPU in R with .Call
...my question is: (a) How do I compile "VecAdd_cuda.c" and got a .dll file that I can dynamically load into R. I tried to use the following R CMD SHLIB VecAdd_cuda.c and got the message "undefined reference to VecAdd_kernel, collect2:ld returned 1 exit stauts". My understanding is that since the function "VecAdd_kernel" is defined in a different file from "VecAdd_cuda.c", I need to link VecAdd_cuda.c with VecAdd_kernel.cu or VecAdd_kernel.o. But I do not know how! Does anyone know what should I do to get "Ve...

Problem installing packages in newer versions of R
Dear all, I was wandering what could be wrong with my system (regularly updated Fedora core 8) so that installing packages does not succeed with almost every package. I follow the procedure specified in the help file R-admin section 6.3. This is not a feature new to the current version but happened (to me) in the previous version as well. Additionally R-help html pages try to follow wrong links
