Staroffice compatibility
So, I thought I'd install staroffice on my system. (It didn't really install correctly, but hey, that's a topic for a different usenet group.) Once I had it installed under the /opt directory structure, when I tried to fire up my wineified email client, I got a host of errors referring to fonts. Then when Agent opened, i...

Hi, I am attempting to find an openoffice powerpower point viewer. I found imposter but when I run my file it says "Cannot find zip signature". I though I would zip it up an try it again but that did not work either. Also I dont think there is a way from the command line to go fullscreen? not sure. Anyone know of a good power point viewer for centos? or a way to make impress

Errors when installing StarOffice on build 20010510

Installing bloatware from Sun is not going to help you debug install problems with bloatware from Microsoft. It would make more sense to compare with MS Access or Excel of the same

Scatterplot question
Dear list members, I have a probably simple question concerning scatterplots: I want to draw a plot with one X but several Y columns, so that every group of samples gets a different symbol. My table looks like this: X Y1 Y2 Y3 1 1 2 3 3 5 4 7 5 9 6 11 7 13 8 15 Simple in Excel or StarOffice, but how do I do it in R? Thanks a lot Judith

Emulation vs Virtualization
...zation are as far as being able to run Windows applications under Unix / Linux in a "real world" (ie commercial office) environment ?? For what its worth I'd prefer to use an open source unix (FreeBSD / OpenBSD) rather than linux, however there are other issues (difficulty in getting StarOffice / CUPS / etc running reliably) that may force the use of something like Mandrake where at least StarOffice / CUPS do work properly. I've installed both bochs & codeweaver wine in Mandrake (neither of which are usable by other than hackers in FreeBSD/ OpenBSD) but haven't been able to ge...

paper size in postscript driver
I have a non-PS printer setup to print under linux using ghostscript as a filter. This printer has two paper trays, one has letter paper, the other tabloid size paper. If I print from a program that uses a PPD file to configure the printer, like StarOffice or The Gimp, I can select the paper size from a nifty list. If I select letter size, the printer print with paper from the letter tray. If I select tabloid, the printer will use the tabloid tray. I added tabloid to R's list of supported paper sizes, which was pretty trivial. If I view the f...

CIFS + NFS'ing a single filesystem w/ locking
Hi, I have a Solaris 10 server exporting UFS directories using built-in NFS. I've built Samba 3.0.20b from OpenPKG (www.openpkg.org). I have a Solaris 10 (x86) client mounting the NFS share and opening OpenDocument files using StarOffice 8 (SO8, aka OO2.0). I also have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server mounting the Samba share and opening documents with SO8. This is a temporary development environment, so I can screw around with it. I have a similar, production environment using RHEL3 (clients) and Solaris 9 (server), with no Samba....

slides in linux R
Hello, In S-Plus Windows you can transform graphics to Powerpoint very easily, in R Windows you can use enhanced metafiles (.emf) and Powerpoint almost as easy. Is there a simular way with R in Linux to transform to the presentation program in StarOffice or OpenOffice or are you stuck with the pdf device? Fredrik Lundgren

Microsoft "Windows for Linux"
-cross posted to comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine- Microsoft should consider producing "Windows for Linux". It could be their own version of Wine, but it would be nearly 100% compatible with the latest version of Windows. Microsoft could require that users have a retail copy of Windows to make this work. It's a win-win situation. Linux users could run nearly all of the available

"font problems in X11 with linux R"
...out/stderr)" and the following message: "Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-*-*-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-iso8859-1"to type FontsStruct" but otherwise help.start with Netscape works OK. No other problems with fonts have surfaced - for example I can use font size 16 in StarOffice 6.0 and Xemacs 21.4 without problems. I realize that this is more a Linux or X11 than a R question but actually I don''t know where to turn. I use SuSE linux 8.1, R 1.62, and Netscape 4.8. How do I fix this problem? Sincerely Fredrik Lundgren

DOS to UNIX Conversion
...me problem with the extension). WordPad is only slightly less useless than NotePad (and *much* more annoying). Believe me, my kid's have been trying to write their first few reports with it, and nobody should be forced to use that thing. I'm gonna give them WordPerfect and start using StarOffice myself (but not for text files). And why on earth would you want to use Word for working with text files? Not to mention the bloat (and other problems), there are tools specifically designed for that (with much more appropriate features). Everything from small and simple (PFE) to medium with...

...e95 Flags 0x00002000 not yet implemented err:win:WINPOS_GetWinOffset bad hwndFrom = ffff0138 I am assuming it is the "GetFileName95" that is causing the problem. Is there a way around this? It would be excellent if I get this working with wine, as I could then use it in conjunction with StarOffice and not have to keep rebooting back into Windows all the time.

SAMBA digest 2537
...ted with the 2-end pages and saved as an own PS-file. That works quite fine, I only need to throw the fax in the sendfax-spool. But there is a small problem when I wanted to print a page with some graphical data in the headline (like the company-logo). I insert the logo in the headline in Word or Staroffice as a GIF/BMP (no matter). The original PS-file can be shown quite well. But when my scripts are ready, the PS file cannot be displayed because of an error in the middle of the graphic-data (so the offending offset gsview reports). As I tried out what it could be, I notice the scripts work fine with...

postscript preview
gday R friends, I was wondering if anyone could help me with some graphics issues please. I'm processing R in batch on redhat6.2 with some graphics to be imported into msword on NT. For scaling within my doco I want some vector type graphics. win.metafile doesn't seem to be supported on redhat which gives me postscript. postscript is ideal but doesn't contain a preview so I
