srvtools : only able to assign primary group
Hello to all. I'm testing Samba as a domain controller (I'm using tdbsam). All is working perfectly so far, but I have an issue when using srvtools to manage my users. I'm only able to assign the primary group to an user account. All additionnal groups added to the "member of:" section are ignored (I press OK and the srvtools don't complain or anything, but when I come back to see groups assignment they are all gone to t...

Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to administrate the users and groups in the domain. I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as opposed to their being a configuration problem. If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or into the domain. I can administrate th...

Samba3+Nexus+Srvtools at least strange
Hi all, Sorry for distubing you with this minor problem, but: I've configured samba3 for ldapsam and successfuly joined a WinNT Server 4.0 with on the fly account creation (I have root in LDAP). Now I'm able to manage my samba3 with user manager for domains from srvtools, but not nexus :-(. From my point of view the sadest thing is that on 9x no other application can retrive user and group information from samba3, like they did with 2.2.x. I was logged in with a root equivalent (username mapped) account, which is member of the Domain Admins group (SID ending...

SRVTOOLS.exe - Please Help
Hello All, I am using Samba + LDAP PDC with all latest updates & versions. I have been using SRVTOOLS.exe to manage the domain in the past because my work mates can use that without needing root access to the server itself. It stopped working some time ago, and it was not bbecause of an update either, I don't know what went wrong or understand this error. When I open USRMGR I get the follo...

srvtools (Usrmgr.exe) : strange problem
Hello everybody. I have noted a strange problem when using Usrmgr.exe (from srvtools). The problem arise when a net groupmap is done on a group for which a user exist with the same name that the specified unixgroup. For example, lets say that I have the following UNIX user and group create on my Samba server : joe (in /etc/group) joe (in /etc/passwd) Now I create the followin...

srvtools -- are these really useful?
I have installed 3.4.3 on a CentOS 5.4 box as a PDC with tdbsam for a backend. All seems to be working as expected in the Samba world. With the intention of getting ordinary maintenance off of my back, I downloaded and installed usrmgr and srvmgr in /root/bin. When I launch either of them from a WinXP workstation member while logged into the domain as root, the domain is not found. I can find

Problem adding users from Windows using svrtool package
Hi everybody, I'm using a Samba 3.0.14a-1 on a stable Debian installation (all the packages are downloaded from samba.org). Reading the "Samba 3 How-To and Reference Guide", on Chapter 4, it says that you can use srvtool.exe package to administer users and machine accounts but it has some problems. I'd configured my Samba server with the corresponding "add user script", "delete user script", "add group script", "delete group script", "add user to group script"...

Samba, win xp and acls
...ing a minimum but efficient configuration with samba and posix acls. * I would like that users windows configuration stay on locals machines (no roaming accounts), * When registering users and computers on the domain, users must keep there configuration, * I want to manage users and groups using srvtools.exe I use tdbsam, posix acls work fine and samba (3.0.14a) runs as a PDC. My problems are : * On windows (with administrator account), some directories don't have the acl (security) panel, * On other directories, the panel is present but I cannot modify permissions, * Users configurations...

Win XP Client password change nightmare.
...e configured Samba as a PDC following "Samba-3 by example" chapter 3, "Secure Office Networking". No DNS or DHCP active, as far as for now this is just a test environment. Most of it works fine, but trying to change user passwords for a MS-Windows test computer (USRMGR.EXE from SRVTOOLS), has proved to be a nightmare. I always get an Access Denied (Aceso denegado) error message. Connection from MS-Windows computer is done as "Administrator" (root). I have googled for hours, and the problem does not seem to be new, but no advice has helped appart from NOT syncing Samba...

samba pdc & ldap without roaming profiles
...don't, then windows account specific information like last passwd change isn't stored in the ldap backend.. Where are they stored then ? Second, the main problem is that I can't remove entries like Home Directory HomeDir Drive Logon Script Profile Path from the users. Neither by using srvtools nor ldap directly nor pdbedit. Therefore I am forced to use all my accs as roaming profiles which I don't really want. I would appreciate any hints for solving this problem. Thank you, Alex Kretschmer

Want to recreate db.
Hiya So im trying to get my PDC working. Started off small and then exported my smbpasswd to tdbsam with pdbedit. The next thing I saw was all the Linux system account (irc, game, mail, etc) listed via pdbedit and srvtool's I think I have done something wrong. I would like to start from scratch and clear restart the tdb's My question is, can I just delete the tdb files. If not, would anyone know what the procedure is (What commands are used when installed from a repository, e.g. apt-get, to generate th...

How to check the password complexity in samba
...hort # /usr/bin/crackcheck -d /usr/share/cracklib/pw_dict AV7OaV2BRr Looks good. 4. Add the following line to the smb.conf and restart samba check password script = /usr/bin/crackcheck -d /usr/share/cracklib/pw_dict But when I change user password from command line (smbldap-passwd) or via gui (srvtools), there is no warning. Even if I set 123 as password. Am I missing something?

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list, I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as being a PDC. When I use the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any groups listed in the window below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user (who is member of more than one group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd. The "member of" and the "not...

problem with groups when adding windows workstation to domain
...(?) and SID almost like the Domain admins (mapped to Wheel) has actually been added. The SID differs in its last numbers - I have SID ending in "1000", added to local Administrators ends in "512". Where should I look more carefully? My other problem is with managing users with SRVTools - usermgr. When I add a new user I get the following message: This security ID may not be assigned as the primary group of an object Managing users (setting passwords, profile location, etc.) works fine, as works adding new machines to the domain. Thanks in advance, Ivo Karabojkov

User Manager for Domains -- Groups not showing
...lightly less technical person to help me manage the accounts. I've been happily using smbldap-tools all of this time, but when I showed what I do to my hapless trainee, her eyes started to glaze over. So as an alternative I'd like to start using the 'User Manager for Domains' in the SRVTOOLS.EXE archive. She might find the point and click of it all more friendly. Only thing is, when I start up User Manager, I can see all the users, but I can't see the groups. So I did a bit of checking and found that nowhere are those available as a list. Not even 'net rpc group list' will...
