Two Zap Problems with 1.0.2 that appeared at the same time: choppyness and squealing
...ng tested. To do so, we run the 7
PBX lines into a FXS card on the Channelbank and configure * to bridge
the PBX lines to the POTS lines as necessary. The problem is that
when the employee talking through * on the PBX hangs up the line, the
caller coming in through the POTS line hears a very loud squeal for a
second until * hangs up the line. I've run the channelbank with a
loopbacked T1 replicating the same problem, and it doesn't happen, so
* is definitely involved somehow. Is there a setting to determine how
asterisk detects hangups on FXS Zap channels?

"skipping" / dropped audio, high-pitched squeal on X100P channels..
This is driving me nuts. Any help appreciated.
I have a couple of annoying problems in my Asterisk box, and I'll be
dipped if I can figure them out. The box in question is an Asterisk
CVS-05/03/04 (1.0) checkout, using the Zaptel drivers of the same
vintage from CVS. There are two X100P cards, and one TDM400P with a
single FXS module. The machine is an Athlon 2400XP CPU, Debian

Can anyone advise me how to resolve this, please?

hmm.. metadata question
...file says you can get chrips in your audio unless "you're
careful." I thought this was mostly fixed in 1.3.9 and greater.. I got all
kinds of garbage using it in 1.3.7, but have had no problems in 1.3.9 or
1.3.10 until today.
Just a few minutes ago my stream started chirping and squealing.. so I had
to disconnect the source and client, and reconnect them.. which seems to
fix the problem.
My question is.. what exactly is meant by "unless you're careful?" What
should I do "carefully" to make sure this doesn't happen?
FWIW, I'm using winamp 2.72...

RAID specialist wanted
Yes, I'm an idiot for not keeping up to date backups. I was happily (and
naively) enjoying using FreeBSD/FreeNAS for a home file server, believing
the array was all the redundancy I needed. Imagine my surprise when the
system drive made a squealing noise and died. I've gotten some pointers from
the FreeNAS team and think I've learned enough over the past year to call
myself a FreeBSD sysadmin-wannabe (I thought I knew more until I skimmed the
recent BSD certification questionnaire). However, time is obviously dragging
on and it'...

Problem with bridging two external lines
We're having a strange problem when an external call is transferred to
an external line. Once the transfer happens, the other line gets opened
but as far as we can tell the number never gets dialed. The person being
transferred gets an extremely loud squealing noise and usually
disconnects. Both lines then remain open indefinitely. We've set an
absolutetimeout, but it doesn't appear to be working. (It's set to 600
seconds, yet after 15 minutes both lines are still open.) The only way
to fix it is to either use a soft hangup or restart the...

...annel is allocated on each side. But it seems that
DNIS is not going through, and so I had to fudge it by creating a "s"
extension on the called side to pass the call through to a SIP
telephone. When the call is answered, the caller hears silence, and the
call recipient hears a soft squeal.
Am I being reasonable in assuming that the absence of a valid audio
stream is the likely reason that the called number is not being passed
through successfully? In any case, what type of stuff should I be
looking for to diagnose this?
FYI, the calling side issues a log message that seems rel...

lots of icecast help needed
Hi, I've been running Icecast on my server for over five months now and am
having lots of problems with it. I must have pulled out half of my hair on
this product, mostly due to lack of support. (I mean, have you ever gotten
an answer to your question at icecast.org?) I've tried it all: sc_serv,
Icecast, shout, ices, streamcast, liveice. I could greatly use any help.
I am using the

Polycom 301 questions
Hi all,
I just purchased a Polycom 301 for my home office and I believe I have
it setup correctly as I can dial out, receive calls in, etc. However,
I'm having the following issue:
When calling a local number over a Zap line, I hear a lot of feed back
on the line. I had a Grandstream configured with the same information
before I got the 301 and never had that kind of feedback noise.

I am not getting any of these problems. I guess libshout is much nicer to
icecast.
I can see how WinAmp is nice, but then you would need two computers for
streaming audio when it could be achieved with only one computer.

The IP range I checked belonged to some big data center company. I don't
remember if I tried to reach them too, probably did.
I haven't heard back from any of those.
I've probably spent several days worth

Audio distorted local side only
...only happens when we speak. As long as we are not talking, the audio
is fine other than the remote party is not as loud as normal.
The distortion sounds a lot like what a speaker sounds like when it is
blown. Not quite static, not quite feedback, but very crackly and
metallic with pops and squeals. It drowns out all other sound on the
call. We hear it very loud, almost painfully and you have to hold the
handset away from your ear as you talk. The remote party says they
hear nothing at all wrong. It happens on both handset and speaker
phone, so it shouldn't be a speaker issue.

Preprocessor denoise. Does it work?
...er 1) adds delay or 2) cuts
> onsets
The latter, if anything. There is no state or buffering; it's just a
short-circuit to the preprocess call. But I will say that, given
minimal testing, the output quality doesn't seem to suffer at all.
And the lack of the very loud keyboard pops and squeals is a real
improvement.
I guess I don't understand your resistance to squelch, it's a very
well-tested idiom. Sure, there are sexier algorithms out there, but
there's still room for squelch in a modern application.

monolithic versus modules
I spun a new xen kernel from pristine sources using modules, had the
APCI errors and scsi timeouts.
I took pristine source and spun a monolithic kernel and everything
appears to be working.
gcc version 3.4.4 20050721 (Red Hat 3.4.4-2)
if it matter.

I have had this APCI issue on this SMP Athlon with modules for a while
now.

OK, then the problem is that I misunderstood the feature. I assumed
that dynamic squelch was part of it, but it's really something more
