Optional WHOIS netname on login banner
I think this is probably my first post to this mailing list, so hello! Occasionally I log in to my servers from IP addresses without reverse DNS configured, so sometimes I'll see an IP I don't recognise because I can't remember what I did the day before and get a bit spooked until I WHOIS the IP and find the netname reminds me I logged in from that IP. I set out prepared to script it, but I understand that the reporting of failed/last logins is only really configurable at source, so instead of submitting a hilarious poorly coded patch from which I receive numerous c...

objects intermittently shared between vignettes
...gnette is built manually, at least under RStudio on Mac OS X 10.11.4 using R 3.3.0? For an example, see install.packages("pkgW2vignettes", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org") This package contains two toy vignettes. This is not a big deal, but it spooked me, when I saw 227 objects listed by "objects()" in a vignette built by "R CMD build" + "R CMD check", when the same "objects()" command only listed 4 objects when I built the same vignette by itself from within RStudio. Enjoy, Spencer Gr...

Problem installing gdb into Rtools42
Thanks for the detailed feedback Tomas, I ran the command 'pacman -Syuu' again, just to be sure, and this time it says "there is nothing to do." It appears that gdb is working. I was spooked by the diagnostics that you say is a known (not serious) issue. My mistake was not setting a breakpoint on main, so I confused problems with gdb with problems with the program I'm trying to debug! Incidentally, my remark about mingw-w64 problems in other communities alluded to the Haskell d...

why a perfectly fine iax2 host becomes UNREA CHABLE?
...quite possible to make a nice Asterisk install if you are conservative in your approach, and upgrading to CVS-HEAD (or whatever it's called these days) every night is *not* the way to do it (I'm sure you aren't doing that, but my point is that with bleeding edge, you, well, bleed.) It spooks me to think of how insanely great Asterisk will be in 2 years once the dev team is through this 1.2 - 1.3 - 1.4 - 1.X period and we can get our hands on a stable, bugfixed, and mature 2.0 release. Until then, 1.0.9 is for me. go devs go!

Centos 4 and Supermicro ICH7R
Hi: I've tried to install centos 4.3 in a raid array, setuped on bios as mode "Adaptec". The chip is ICH7R but centos always sees 2 drives instead of the array that I create. I've contacted Supermicro support and they gave me this link ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/Adaptec_ICH7R/Linux/Redhat/ , but the disk drivers I tried to use with centos 4.3 did not work, saying that

Should I use gbde or geli?
Hello out there, everybody! I was actually expecting to find several (hundred) threads with this subject being discussed. To my surprise I didn't find a single one either on these mailing lists or in the newsgroups - at least not in a language I understand. :-) I realize that gbde and geli are not designed to be better than the other but that both fit different needs and different tastes.

What business IP phone to use
I have been struggling with this issue for about a year now. There were just too many IP phones to choose from at all sorts of price points and not enough information about any of them. Now I am looking at the situation again and if anything it has gotten worse. There are even more phones and all sorts of opinions. For every person that says phone x is great there is someone else complaining

Is anyone using Samba 2.2.x with SSL support? I have tried compiling it with OpenSSL 0.9.6a, but I got a warning that got me spooked.
