current deployment options
- Have been away from RoR development for a couple of years.
- Will be doing a new project soon, starting with RoR 3.1.
- This site will be hosted on a dedicated user-controlled server inside their intranet, so this question is not about hosting services.
- Expect about 100,000 page views a day, with a bit more spikiness than normal around some shift changes, so provisioning as if for 500,000

disabling 'show status' in activerecord because of overhead of spawning process
hi,
i have a app which has a spiky activity, there a large period of
inactivity between request. With phusion-passenger after a period of
inactivity the process is killed, and when the app is respawned the
''show status'' queries take more time than the actual sql themself.
I know that ActiveRecord makes the '...

Re: combined graph in R
Hello,
I could not yet create combined graph in R. To avoid misunderstands,
three examples (originally created in Quattro pro) have been attached.
At first, I don't know how to create graph composed of bars and areas in
the same picture as it is shown in the balance graph (h2plc02.gif).
I am sendind the original data table from that I need make the same
charts. First column (julian day)

Exporting an rgl graph
Hi the list,
I use rgl to produce a 3D graph. I would like to "show" this graph to
some collaborator. Is there a way to save it and send it to someone
else?

access denied problem
Hello
I''ve started working through the book "Agile web development with
Rails" and so far everything has been great.
I''m on page 56, 57 trying to create the admin tool for the example
project "Depot".
I''m on OS X Panther 10.3.9. I have checked the Errata on the website
and tried some of the suggestions there, but nothing has worked. When

OT: Bandwidth calculations
Hi,
I know some of you are very experienced as to the working of
networks. I wondered whether there is some accepted way of determining
bandwidth needs based on the network traffic over time. For example,
looking at the figures for the network traffic through the server
interface, we have hourly, daily and monthly figures. If everything
were linear, taking the hourly figure and dividing it by

2d wavelet transforms
...be sure (I already have a Haar wavelet
implementation that build a binary tree, and then saves the
coefficients walking the tree breadth-first, which yields
the last format).
What I hope to do is do a wavelet-transform of each frame.
If I understand correctly this should yield a
rather "spiky" "graph", due to the characteristics of the
data. Now I want to encode the difference in location and
amplitude of these spikes in a smooth curve. Ofcourse this
only works well if the changes happen to lie on a curve, so
I'll have some staring to graphs to do. Anyway, if the...

...e bread and butter for obtaining
server-quality hardware. The typical donation will be at least one or
two generations old before the non-profit gets it; my current employer
is just putting in production some IBM BladeCenters with the dual-socket
Opteron LS20 blades (10+ years old). Given the spiky workload, these
blades are suitable for the targeted use, and the electrical
requirements aren't a problem (I've done the math; it would take ten
years or more to justify the purchase price of a new blade based on
power savings alone, and our power is quite inexpensive here). At least...

PRI issues with TE410P
Hi,
I am having some problems mentioned below, the box is in production live
environment with traffic around 30 - 100 calls.
I am running T/E410P in a Dual P4 xeon with HT disabled. I am using
zaptel 0.9.0 and asterisk stable 1 release. There is no gui, just mysql,
perl (small script) and asterisk.
System runs very smoothly if the calls are around 40-50 and comes one by
one , however sometimes

Does "sink" stand for anything?
Hello Everyone,
Learning about R and its wonderful array of functions. If it's not obvious, I usually try to find out what a function stands for. I think this helps me remember better.
One function that has me stumped is "sink." Can anyone tell me if this stands for something?
Thanks,
Paul
