British or American spelling?
I was curious to read the following in the "Guidelines for Rd files" at
http://developer.r-project.org/Rds.html:
"For consistency, aim to use British (rather than American) spelling.
(NB: British spelling often uses -ize as in `capitalize'. The view of
spell -b
of British spelling is a flawed American one. There are English/Scottish

dofus : Enripsa Soloing Guide
Most people (even Eniripsa players) see Eniripsa solely as support characters. They are support characters, but to limit an Eniripsa to purely support status, one never realises an Eniripsa's true power. Alot of guides will tell you that Eniripsa are "leech fairies" for most levels, that is not the case if built properly. The important thing to remember when building a solo Eniripsa

hivex: lintain being pedantic about spelling!
Thanks very much for the responses on my last three issues. I've
incorporated the appropriate changes into the budding Debian package.
I feel embarrassed to raise this one, but in the interests of shutting
lintian up maybe this could be fixed at some point:
I: hivex: spelling-error-in-manpage usr/share/man/man1/hivexregedit.1.gz reencode re-encode

QueryParser : some remarks
Hi to all,
First, I would like to say a big thank you for the work which was done
on my 'wish bug' to allow mapping one field to multiple prefixes
(http://www.xapian.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=93).
That's great!
I have upgraded to 1.0.4 and I am revisiting my code, replacing the php
query parser I wrote with Xapian's one.
Everything works well, but I have some

How to recognize a name spelled letter by letter ?
...he following feature:
- caller dials a given extension dedicated to a given language (german,
english, ...)
- Asterisk plays a welcome audio prompt
- caller spells his or her first name letter by letter (for example, caller
spell "A", "L", "I", ...)
- Asterisk repeats spelled letters to caller.
If possible, which module is needed ?
Best regards

Turning off spell checker in TextCtrl
Hi,
I''m running WxRuby2 on Mac OS X. Something is spell checking the text
that I put into it; words it doesn''t recognize get an annoying red
line under them. How can I turn the spell checker off?
Thanks,
Paul

GSoC - Improving Spelling Correction
Hi Everyone,
I?m a student in Peking University, China, my name is Xiaobing Liu, I?m
interest in Spelling correction project.
I think Xapian?s Spelling correction is based on edit distance with trusted
dictionary. I have some questions about the spelling correction algorithm.
1. The Spelling correction algorithm depends on which dictionary, the
dictionary in inverted index or other

Spelling correction confusion
If I spell "commission" wrongly with an s instead of a t, Xapian (via
the QueryParser's get_corrected_query_string function) is finding
the right spelling:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/search/commistion
However, if I miss the s out completely, it doesn't find it:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/search/commision
Any idea why that is?
Missing the last i out also doesn't

[OT] R-project.Borg?
A few moments ago I used Mozilla Thunderbird to send an email message
that contained a forwarded message sent from an R-project.org address.
The spell checker flagged this phrase as a potential spelling error and
offered the replacement "R-project.Borg". If it wasn't that Mozilla is
another Open Source project, I would think this indicated paranoia.
P.S. I do realize that the

Crashes with spelling enabled and perl.
Hi Guys,
Here's a simple test case that causes a segfault with the perl
bindings patched to enable spelling correction:
use strict;
use warnings;
use Search::Xapian;
my $db = Search::Xapian::WritableDatabase->new("test.db",
Search::Xapian::DB_CREATE_OR_OPEN);
if (!defined($db)) {
die("Failed to open xapian_database: $!");
}

Agent spell checker behavior
...ave to do with the Clipboard
;-)
When I spell check an email in Agent(Windows), and I get a word not
found, I get a window that shows the not found word with a highlighted
suggested correction. When I spell check an email in Agent(Wine) the
same thing happens except the highlighted word is the misspelled word
instead of the suggested word.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Many thanks,

typo in ?pie
Hello:
The help page for 'pie' includes "judgements"; the standard
spelling does not include "e", as spell checkers have informed me many
times.
... in case someone wants to correct that typo.
Best Wishes,

[Bug 233] could we please learn how to spell the word license
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233
------- Additional Comments From dtucker at zip.com.au 2002-05-02 19:44 -------
dictionary.com lists "licence" as a variant of "license" according to The
American Heritage Dictionary (go check, we'll wait). It's listed as chiefly
British but both variants are commonly used in Australia (and, I suspect,
Canada).
