single static ip address
Hi Tinc group, I have recently got an adsl connection at home, which only provides a single static ip address. I want to set up a tinc vpn from home to my workplace. I am trying to decide what hardware I need to do the above. At the moment, I am aware that I could use an Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem directly connected to a Linux vpn box at my home. ( Wall socket---adsl cable---Speedtouch---usb cable---Linux PC----internal ethernet) Could I use an adsl router (e.g. SAR703) instead of the Speedtouch, and still get the Tinc vpn to work? In this case would the SAR703 forward both tcp a...

MTU and Voice Delay (latency??)
Our users are experiencing some unacceptable delay when trying to have a conversation. The delay is so noticeable that they keep stepping on each others words and resort to calling the customers via cell phone. Here is the setup SDSL Connection (PPPoA) Speedtouch 610 SDSL Modem 3Com 2224PWR Plus Switch (phones on separate VLAN) 8 Cisco 796 Phones All connecting to a remote Asterisk Server. We found that the MTU for the SDSL modem was set to 1500 and I have since changed it to 1458 which is the ISP's recommended setting. Can this MTU difference cause...

thomson speedtouch ST2030
hi there, I saw a page on voip-info about the thomson ST2030 phone. There is not so much info on there, that's why I would like to raise a question here. Has anyone got hands-on experience with this phone? (with or without extension module) I am interested if it can be used (as SIP phone) in a good way with asterisk. (also, do all the functions behave like they should; like Supervision

Registration failed problems/Polycom 500/maybe nat problem?
I have sent a Polycom IP500 phone to an overseas remote user who has a Speedtouch adsl modem/router. The phone is connected to the 4 port router which performs NAT for the network. The phone rboots, find the server, downloads it's config and tried to register. Then it immediately becomes UNREACHABLE. Jul 26 17:44:41 NOTICE[21026]: chan_sip.c:9138 handle_request_register:...

How to escape characters in Dialplan
Hello, I'm using Asterisk 1.6.2.0 and I like to use escape characters with SendText, because I can just delete the message from my phone (Thomson Speedtouch ST2030) display by sending a return-char (\n). But \n is not escaped: I tried already: exten => 222, n, SendText(\n) exten => 222, n, SendText("\n") exten => 222, n, SendText('\n') exten => 222, n, SendText(`\n`) So how can I use escape characters in dialplan? PPPoe, Bgp
Refering to pppoe i have next problem : I asked my isp if i can buy a class of real ip`s to be routed by them. They said elegantly it can`t be done . I want opinions . I am using an ADSL connection through a Speedtouch 510 configured in bridge. About Bgp : i asked someone if i can peer 2 different locations on 2 different ip`s using private asn number and he said yes , and what i don`t understood is how can do that peer without using bgp. Thanks. Gladly waiting an answer.

htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?!
I''m getting the following error/warning at some point in my config script, and I''m not sure which class it is referring to. htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?! I [think I] understand that htb is a non-work-conserving qdisc, and I [think I] have configured things so that every htb qdisc I instantiate limits the bandwidth, so I don''t understand why this

MultiISP: failover and dynamic IP
Dear list, Shorewall is running here with 2 ISP''s: ISP1: corporate ADSL-line with fixed set of IP''s ISP2: fast consumer-grade cable-connection with higher bandwidth All our main traffic (web, e-mail) is routed trough ISP1. Only for special purposes (frequent large ftp-transfers) ISP2 is used, configured trough tcrules. ISP2 is not so reliable as ISP1 (duh) and they sometimes

SIP one-way audio
...ing trouble with my "simple setup". My setup is like this: <SIP_PROVIDER>---<DSL1>---<LINUX_GATEWAY>---<ASTERISK_VIA_DSL1> I've unloaded the nf_*_sip kernel modules from the LINUX_GATEWAY just in case they could interfere. The DSL1 modem/router is a THOMSON SPEEDTOUCH and I've disabled "SIP ALG". If I place a SIP call then I immediately get a one-way audio issue. However, if I define "externip" and "localnet" in my sip.conf and "sip reload" then at first, calls are OK (two-way) for about 10-15 minutes. After that, al...

Dovecot IDLE bandwidth usage
Hi list, I just recently discovered the IMAP IDLE command and tried it out with my Dovecot server. It seems to work fine and all, but it seems to be using quite a deal of bandwidth, because of the "* OK Still here" messages sent by the server at two minute intervals. I would argue that is a bit of a problem when using the IDLE command for "Push mail" on a mobile phone. I

UA - number assignment
My problem is simple and I've issued it about 3 weeks ago. I want the UAs to authenticate with a number to the SIP server. Is this possible? For example, I configured an AT-RG613TX (Allied Telesyn Residential Gateway). In its configuration it is not possible for me to skip specifying a number (ex. 102) along with the username. I've looked into the source code (SIP implementation) of

ADSL PCI cards
Does anyone have any information or recommendations for ADSL PCI Cards for Linux boxes? E.g. which ones are supported? How much are they? etc. Dirk -- Please Note: Some Quantum Physics Theories Suggest That When the Consumer Is Not Directly Observing This Product, It May Cease to Exist or Will Exist Only in a Vague and Undetermined State.
