P4 Motherboard/Chipset Recomendations
I'm looking at deploying a new set of servers based around Intel P4 800MHZ FSB
processors.
Currently I'm looking at the following 2 motherboards and I'm wondering how
well supported they are under -STABLE (specificaly the ATA and LAN as well as
text mode video)
Model Chipset
ASUS P4P8X Intel 865P
ASUS P4P800 Intel 865PE
Also I'm looking for recommendations on Dual Xeon boards capable of handling
533MHz FSB 2.4GHz parts.
Thanks in advance.

The new Linux IGD support
Hello Tom,
I tried the new UPnP support of shorewall, olny to stumble upon a
LinuxIGD bug. Specificaly, the UPnP chain is read as UPn from the
upnpd.conf . I double checked it, there some bug in the upnpd, it
doesn''t process 4 lettered names correctly. Could you change this
chains'' name to something a little longer?

"Could not retrieve dependency" error
Hi,
I''m getting a "Could not retrieve dependency" error and I can''t figure why.
Someone got a cluestick for me?
I''m using the following simplified configuration to ensure sshd is running
and gets reloaded when the config file changes:
---- site.pp ----

DNAT Issue

124.124.124.124 and 123.123.123.123 are the external IPs for the mail

The two mail servers need to communicate with each other via smtp

Specificaly when one server tries to connect to the other it looks up the

via that address.
So I''m trying to set up the following rule to direct the traffic
correctly, as
it cannot conenct directly using the external IP address.

Can I have oplocks enabled without problems?
...my office for some weeks now and I am quite
happy with it. Yet I had one problem regarding locking that troubled me a
lot (in fact the list helped me a lot in finding the solution):
In my setup with RedHat 7.0 + Samba 2.2 I had to disable oplocks (set
oplocks = no) for shares containing databases (specificaly MS Access ones)
that were accessed simultaneously from more than one windows 98 clients. If
I left it enabled I was getting a lot of "access denied", "this file is
allready in use" and stuff like that. Disabling oplocks solves the problem
but according to the "Using samba&q...

How to use different SASL mechanisms for ssl connections
Hi
I would like to set different SASL mechanisms for users trying to login
(POP3/IMAP/Managesieve) on encrypted channel, than for those on
unencrypted connection.
Specificaly:
For users on unencrypted channel, i need to allow login with CRAM-MD5
(to improve security - I have users who require unencrypted connection
but i cant let tem use PLAIN login, of course). But for users on
TLS/STARTTLS, there is no need to encrypt the password and I want to

strange nmbd behaviour..............
Hello people....
Ok I am having a strange problem with samba and more specificaly the nmb
daemon.
I run smbd and nmbd as daemons from the /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf so
they run from inetd.
But when I check the status with SWAT it tells me that nmbd is not running.
So I have to issue the command nmbd -D manualy.
Why? my setting on /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf are...

This may not be a Samba specific issue I am having but it came up when
working with samba shares specificaly so I thought I would ask here
first. Please feel free to redirect me to more appropriate sites if needed.
I am running Samba version 3.0.4 on Slackware 10. I am running into a
problem with being able to allow a normal non-root user to either mount
samba shares or regular disk shares but not bot...

We tracked the problem down to what appears to be a livelock related

execution of the the munmap function call and what app...

...Testing with vorbis-tools-1.4.2

For me, the "delay" happens between "specificaly" and "designed".
Note that this does _not_ happen with the previous dataproc.wav file.

yum quit working in CentOS 5.4 x86_64
Have been running 5.4 x86_64 for a couple of months now. Every once in
a while, I would get a notice that updates were available.
It appears that about 3 weeks ago, yum stopped notifying me of updates.
Over that time, I've manually done a 'yum update' from a command line,
with an output that there are no updates.
I know this cannot be true, because I watch the 'centOS-announce

[LLVMdev] Crash in libunwind
This may be bogus, but do you have:
llvm::JITExceptionHandling = true;
for the code that generates the dynamic code?
It has been a while, but I don't recall what will happen when dynamic code, generated
with jit exception handling turned off, invokes libraries which in turn try to unwind the stack
via the libunwind api. However given that you say the code works with 2.8, my concern

Multiple EM connections on separate threads

I''m hoping someone can shed some light on the following...
I''m using a 3rd party (legacy) server that can accept up to 8
simultaneous connections on one port.
I''ve been able to make multiple connections to this server from within
one call to EventMachine::run {...}.
Specificaly, I can access each connection separately using:
em_thread = Thread.new do
EventMachine::run {
t = Thread.current
