Spatiotemporal correlation function
Hi, I'm trying to compute  the spatiotemporal correlation matrix by using Delta Kronecker products of spatial and temporal correlation matrix  in R, but didn't find any delta Kronecker's operator in R. The operators in matrix such as multiplication, addition, eigen values/vector and etc is easily to find and used. Could someone help...

Marine Spatial Modeler/Quantitative Ecologist position
...vation, and spatial planning. Up to two candidates will be employed by CSS-Dynamac to work on site at the NOAA National Ocean Service in Silver Spring, MD. We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise using scientific programming languages (R, Python, Matlab) to fit a variety of advanced spatial/spatiotemporal statistical models to marine ecological data ? including both physical and biological aspects of marine and coastal ecosystems. Experience in marine sciences is strongly preferred, however, candidates with strong backgrounds in spatial/geostatistical environmental modeling will also be considered...

overlay histograms on map at map coordinates
Hi all, I'm trying to visualize animal movement data characteristics spatiotemporally by overlaying many different histograms on a map. I want the histograms to be plotted at coordinates in the map that matches a region they describe. If I was just doing this once, I'd fiddle in Illustrator after R and avoid the headache. But I'll be doing it many many times so...

nested repeated measures in R
R help, How would I input data, verify assumptions, and run a nested repeated measures ANOVA using R? I have STATION nested in SITE nested in BLOCK with measurements repeated for five YEARs. All are random variables and it's only slightly unbalanced. I'm trying to characterize spatiotemporal variation in stream habitat variables. Thanks for your help! Eric Merten

Modifying the design matrix X in GAMS to suit data assimilation
I have a data assimilation problem that might be amenable to the use of GAMS, but I am not sure how feasible it is to implement. I was told the R mailing list was a great resource. My observations are spatiotemporal salinity in the San Francisco Bay at a number of instruments over a few days. The thing that I want to fit is the initial condition for a salt transport model at the beginning of this time period. The spline basis functions, parameters and curvature penalties would all be purely spatial, though t...

Statistical / data mining methods in R and not in SAS?
Hi, and sorry for asking such an unspecific question. Does anybody know of statistical / data mining methods that are available in R that are not in SAS ? With SAS I mean the SAS System Version 9.4 and SAS Enterprise Miner. I don't expect a complete list, just two or three examples or hints where and what to look for. I found some older comparisons, and the R methods mentioned there

S-mode PCAs
Hi all, I have a file of average SWE observations for 40 years at over 4,000 points and am attempting to do a spatiotemporal analysis of the data using PCA, much like this paper did using snow depth: http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/1520-0442%281998%29011%3C0856%3ATCIRWS%3E2.0.CO%3B2 I have followed the code in the link below by my loadings are far too small (For example, the paper listed above had loading...

Data frame sampling
...placement from the full vector for the remaining 6 weeks (i.e. 12 more rows extracted). One final condition is that DOW's must not be duplicated for any given WEEK (e.g. I cannot sample two Tuesdays in any one week). The reasoning for my approach is that I want even coverage of all 40 unique spatiotemporal strata in my final data frame. Thank you, Mike ### The following code extracts two rows per week randomly without replacement and ensures that no two ### DOW are duplicated per week, but fails to incorporate even coverage of strata. set.seed(3000) WEEKDAY_STRATA1 <- do.call("rbind...

track on boats
Hi professors I'm finding the best package in R for manage a big database about vessels. I need to divided the travel of each boat into tracks. I have GPS points. I would join these points in a line on the map. I make that with the function "lines", but I can't divided by vessel or by track, I saw several packages, for tracking animals but they had specifically variables. And I
