we use Samba 2.2.3a on Suse Linux (Kernel 2.4.18-4GB).
There?s the following share defined:

All users can create and modify files, but only clients with win2k can

You can't do it!
Samba won't be a BDC for NT and viceversa.
maybe, you should wait samba 4.0.

Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Hi every body,
As you may have guessed, I've got a problem ;)
What I had :
- A PDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER1, for the domain TEST
- A BDC Server (Windows NT 4 SP 6a), called SERVER2, for the domain TEST
Everything was working fine.
Now I switched my NT PDC to a Samba PDC, and I make SERVER1 a BDC for the domain. Until now, no problem. I use samba 3.0.4,

Printing problems with Samba 2.2.3a

described anywhere else.
We have two HP printers, a LaserJet 4000N and a LaserJet 5N, which I'd like
to share using the new SPOOLSS printer functionality. Following the
instructions in the Printing How-to, I was able to upload drivers for both
printers to the Samba server from an NT4 (SP6a) Workstation. Printing to
the 4000N now works flawlessly. My problems are with the 5N. When I try
to print a test page with "Print Test Page" button, NT4 WS (SP6a) responds
with
"Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print trouble
shooter for assistance? The...

About another r-script input method for Rterm of RWin
Hello.
I try to create stat sever by IIS 4.0 + ASP + VBScript with R for Win on NT
Sever 4.0 SP6a.
However VBScript denied redirection input of R script.
Do Rwin developers have a plan to add a following function by adding an
argument of command line?

More problems with samba 3.0.23c and NT4
Hi everyone!
I have some trouble with samba 3.0.23 as PDC for NT4 workstations with SP6a.
I have upgraded from samba2.
1. The ntconfig.pol from the netlogon-share does'nt work. I get a prf1.tmp in the User-Profile-Folder and the policy wouldn't mix to
the registry. In the Event-Log I found an entry

POLEDIT replacement?
I've been reading about policies and the documentation says to grab
poledit.exe from the NT SP6a file.
There are many policy settings that are not available via this tool.
Isn't there something newer that could be used to create the .pol file
needed by samba to implement policies? Or will this only be available
with samba4?

Samba 3 dms doesn't allow access through interdomain trust

appear to be working properly.

NT authentication
Greetings,
First, I want to clarify That I am a unix systems person in a mostly unix
shop and this windows stuff is voodoo to me.
I have successfully set up several Windows 98 systems that use samba for
all the user login authentication, roaming profiles, and the whole works.
It seems to work well. One passwd for both unix and Windows logins. The
Samba team has done a great job in coding and

BackupExec 8.5/NT + Samba 2.2
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with BackupExec and Samba?
BackupExec refuse to access Samba shares. Windows shares are OK, but all my
Samba shares are not. I have Samba on at least 2 Linux 2.4 machines + 1 on
Solaris. Neither ones work with BExec.
Any idea? Other have experience with BExec and Samba?
Thanks a lot

I use samba 2.2.2 on AIX 4.3.2 (1500 NT4 sp6a / w2k sp2 workstation). since
i had updated from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 the CPU load will very fast go to 100% an
d teh memory use of a smbd process will grow up to 100 MB. In teh log-files
are many errors like that:

samba digest, Vol 1 #708 - 17 msgs
Okay, let's try this again. I've gotten my samba 2.2.2 server doing
everything BUT winbind, users can print, see shares, etc. And they're
authenticating against a real NT 4.5 SP6a server (newly generated).
When I get to the step where I need to join the domain, this is what
happens:
[root@NetServer samba]# smbpasswd -j BIO2RES -r DOMAIN-CONTROL -U Administrator
Password:
Error connecting to DOMAIN-CONTROL
Unable to join domain BIO2RES.
I've tried this with smbd and nm...

nobody is perfect!
...'write list = ...' and/or by access right on the filesystem to a
unix group, those connections fail, when they try to access to shares.
I could not see any pattern in the Windows versions on the clients. Most
are WinNT and some are Win2K. On the NT-clients it sometimes helps to
upgrade to SP6a. But some SP6a clients report that problem too.
I could fix this problem partially by adding the line 'write list = ...
nobody' into my smb.conf, but thats just a hack in my oppinion.
This problem does not apply to printing. Everyone can print including
nobody ;) (nobody is perfect!)
