'Jukebox' quality?
In light of the recent study - http://www.airwindows.com/encoders/index.html - posted at slashdot, I've come to realize how little I know about this whole field. So, I'm making an appeal to the audio experts here. I want 'jukebox' quality, meaning ~0 artifacts while maintaining a good compression ratio, but not quite 'archival' (read high bitrate) as I don't mind

RE: FhG $15k minimum and games...
...e on the task? I realize that good optimizers are expensive, but surely EA is looking at way more than one programmer's salary in FhG licensing fees. And it's not really a huge project. Something along the lines of MAD (http://www.mars.org/home/rob/proj/mpeg/) would do nicely. Joe Soroka Senior Software Engineer Inphinity Interactive where the games begin... PS. I know it sounds like I'm 'calling the kettle black,' but I *am* working on an addition to vorbis that will be of great use to game programmers like us. it just happens not to be an optimized decoder. details...

I can attach MP3 to an AVI of course, but there are many playback problems (mainly sync + crappy sound) with MP3... any of you developers working on

Merb-style development exception pages for Mac OS X
I like the merb-style exception pages where there''re links to open the files listed in the stack trace in TextMate and the source around each line a lot so I stole the idea (and the code!) and made a patch for Rails: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10401 Here''s how it looks like in Merb: http://yehudakatz.com/wp-content/uploads/stacktrace.gif What do you guys think?

Macintosh support (again)
In order to compile the latest Vorbis library on the Macintosh, the change appended to this message needs to be made to os_types.h.in. Then, anyone who wants to actually build it must first copy os_types.h.in to os_types.h by hand, since MacOS does not include a command line and thus cannot run configure. It really bugs me that the whole "platforms which don't support configure
