Usually you want a "soft" version of this, e.g., via > the OOM handler (so only drop parts of the cache, not all). Right. We'll need something softer I guess. By how much, I don't know. -- MST

strange wave like noise on sip handset
Hello On a Sipura SPA-841 handset (and also at other end) you hear a sea wave like sound - it gets louder then softer and continually repeats. I don't remember hearing this when using other handsets. But what is this effect? How can I reduce it? Angus

Chi-Square test and survey results
...ey.Respondents)) X-squared = 17.5912, df = 15, p-value = 0.2848 Is there a way of reconciling a large response rate with an unrepresentative response profile? Or is the bad news that the survey will give very precise results about a very ill-specified sub-population? (Of course, I would put in softer terms, like "you need to assess the degree of homogeneity across different regions" .) 3) Is Chi-squared really the right measure of how representative is the survey? <<<<<<< >>>>>>>>> Thanks for any help you can give - hope these quest...

Asterisk and Sirrix PCI4S0 echo cancellation
...hat with 'echocancel = yes' in /etc/asterisk/sirrix.conf the echo is unbearably loud - so loud in fact that the echo distorts. To remedy this I've set 'echocancel = no' and disabled the echo cancellation. With the echo cancellation disabled there is still an echo but it is much softer. Any ideas on how I can turn on the echo cancellation again without having the very loud echo back ? Is there some way I could perhaps drop the TX volume out of the Sirrix card ? Perhaps this would help ? Thanks in advance. Kindest regards David Wilson _______________________________ D c D a t...

ezstream question
Thanks Geoff, I will give it a try. I am reencoding all files to a 128K mp3, 44100 sample rate stereo stream for consistency. So yes I have the decode and encode lines in the xml file as you outlined. I will check out sox and see how it does. I am also exploring mp3gain to run across the entire library and see if getting all files to the same level will help. Larry -----Original

Programming with designers in mind
Gents, We''re hard at work on a new Rails app. We''re a small group of developers...not a web designer in the bunch. We know CSS enough to be dangerous, but we shy away from the "softer" skills (all the while envious of those with that capability). We intend to grow our application in terms of functionality, but I need to make sure we keep an eye towards "prettying it up" down the line. At some point, we''ll hire a real live designer to improve the lo...

(Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really "even out" the volume.

dsync for subscription on public/shared folder
Hello, I already wrote regarding that, but maybe it sounded too complex. I will write it a bit softer now. The replication through dsnyc works perfectly with one exception. I am having an issue with the replication of the subscriptions file on shared folder. We have a public mailbox defined: namespace public-test { location = maildir:/opt/mail/_public/test prefix = public/test/ separa...

Loudness of recorded wav-audio
Hello, I sent a wav-audio to Asterisk though SIP and ISDN channels and recorded it in wav-audio at the Asterisk server. I found the loudness level of the recorded audio was too high comparing with the orginal audio. How can I ajust it, so that there will be no amplifier used for recording. Thanks a lot. best regards Felix -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

have you by chance, even accidentally turned on the volume normalization in vlc?? it doesn't work, and makes things get louder and softer in annoying ways. -- The Power Of the People Is Stronger Than The People In Charge. 13. HoldMusic Beep
Does anyone have a audio file they would be willing to share for on hold music? I am looking for something like the old norstar beep every few seconds. I tried 3 seconds silence, beep.wav, beep.wav. But it just didn't sound right. I need one that has a "softer" beep. GoogleAds on wiki.centos.org
We need to maintain GoogleAds on wiki.centos.org ... so let's not ask for them to be removed :D However, what I think makes sense from a space perspective is this: If we can move the search box down and stick it in the same place as the "More Actions" drop down box, then maybe we can move the GoogleAds down into the title bar beside the CentOS Logo. I am also OK with a right

Newbie
Hi, I just started with Asterisk as I am very unhappy with the functionality of my current PBX at home. I try to understand everything and play around, but it is not as easy as I thought. So please be patient if this is a too easy question for You. I installed Asterisk 1.4.26.3 on a Debian Lenny with IP 192.168.2.147 My extension.conf looks like this: [default] exten => 1001,1,Answer()

Mere chat on vectorisation matters
...t of discussions on R-help; through thrashing, going over real memory and into paging may considerably slow down an R application. On the other hand, unless very carefully implemented, chaining overhead might slow down all non-thrashing applications, which is most of them. Nevertheless, being softer on memory requirements is already a concern in R, I vaguely remember having read that R "tries to prove" that a vector being modified will not needed anymore in its original form, and when the proof succeeds, the original vector gets modified without prior copying. Chaining, despite...
