smokeping on CentOS questions
I'm having some problems getting CentOS to serve up my Smokeping pages ( http://oss.oetiker.ch/smokeping/) However, I'm having problems getting the pages to serve up correctly. Here is a quick run down of what I've done. (1) wget and untar to /usr/local/smokeping (2) chown -R root:root /usr/local/smokeping (3) modifying to the following files to ref...

getting array of hostnames of clients
...ot;empty" end output end end but this isn''t getting anything in the fact at all, not even "empty". Running that cat command on the commandline returns exactly what I would expect. If I run facter on the commandline like this: FACTERLIB="/etc/puppet/modules/smokeping_prep/lib/facts" facter nodelist I get the list I expect. On each node I have this: @@file { "testnode-{$::fqdn}": ensure => file, path => "/tmp/testnode-$::fqdn.txt", mode => 640, owner => root, tag => ''testnodes'',...

Default ICMP rate limiting changes from 5.4 to 6.x?
Hello all, I'm trying to figure out why my smokeping installation using fping probes now seems to get periodic loss. It's very minor and only affects the fping probe type. Without centering too much on smokeping details, was there any sort of default rate limiting changed in the ICMP settings going from FreeBSD 5.4 to 6.0? The problem happ...

Will couple of packets drop when in-frequent traffic go through tinc?
An very interesting test did yesterday that, LAN1 and LAN2 setup an tinc VPN which is quite simple(the physical link between tinc nodes are quite stable/fast), and no any application traffic to go through the tinc. Later, I setup smokeping which LAN1 initial 20 ping to LAN2 on a per-minute basis, but as you saw from the below picture, it had packet drop. But if I perform a constantly ping from LAN1 and LAN2, then the smokeping output show the packet drop no longer happens. From this observation, it seems the tinc VPN connection w...

Assessing network quality
...Although network 1 is reasonably fast and has low enough latency, voice quality is not good and the reason for this is not readily apparent using standard network tools. What tools can be used to assess the quality of the network in terms of it's suitability for voice? I am using ping, mtr, smokeping for general network reliability and using visualroute to give me info, but I need some voice specific quality metrics. Any ideas? -- Chris Mason NetConcepts (264) 497-5670 Fax: (264) 497-8463 Int: (305) 704-7249 Fax: (815)301-9759 Cell: 264-235-5670 Yahoo IM: netconcepts_anguilla@yahoo.com

Remote system up/down monitoring tool?
I have a small number of boxes in different locations, and currently have a fairly crude cron job running on each, which does a ping of one or more of the other boxes, and if the ping fails, it emails me to say the other box might be down. It then emails me again the next time the other box appears to be up. Of course, this can't distinguish between the remote box really being down and there

Audio dropping
Hello, We see some strange behavior with phone calls, we use Asterisk 1.8.3.3. SIP clients (all behind NAT at different locations, so not a single NAT solution is used): - x-lite - linksys pap2t - polycom kirk (multiple type numbers) - polycom (multiple type numbers, hardware phones) Our Asterisk servers stays in between (some calls are recorded). Asterisk is running on a physical server (no

g729 and latency measures
Hi, we have set up a small project in a school the following way: SITE_A(4 port analog to ip g729)------ADSL_ISP1-------ISP2--------Asterisk-----PSTN Site A has 1 Megabit of bandwith (up 512kilobit down 1 megabit) The asterisk box gets internet service via a wireless antenna. 1 Mbit of up/down bandwith Comments: So far, this means that I will need licenses for the 729. asterisk only supports 20ms

virt-manager / remote desktop latency issues
...are running a GNOME desktop I've observed some latency issues, for example, changing focus from one terminal to another is a bit sluggish. Typing isn't too bad. The WAN connection is gigabit fibre from my home into a local data center. Ping times are about 0.8ms to the physical server. Smokeping shows there is no packet loss and the latency is constant. Can I do anything to tweak the .ssh/config to make it better? It occurred to me that adding "IPQoS lowdelay" might be useful as it defaults to "throughput" for non-interactive connections. Maybe virt-manager should...

Ping time resolution
Hi! We have encountered a rather weird problem on a machine that we use for our network latency check (smokeping with fping). For an hour (or so) after boot it reports the ping time with a microsecond accuracy (ad it should). Then the millisecond accuracy starts. We have yet to identify the cause and the logs currently do not show anything. Please find an example of a good and a bad result below. Regard...

Raspberry Pi Version of Samba?
I thought I'd chime in here a bit. I'm no RPi guru - but I've used them quite a lot for monitoring installs - stuff like Smokeping/Nagios/OMD/Cacti. They were cheap and seemed attractive low-power devices for client installs - back 5-6 years ago. I'm definitely using regular PC's now. Yes, the hardware is more expensive - but an Optiplex 7010 or the like off of ebay, with a SSD is _WAY_ more capable. and while it m...

Sieve: adding Date: header when missing
Hello, there is a way with a sieve rule to add a Date: header when it is missing? Adding one with the time of reception of the message or using the date from the the first Received: header would be good options. Unfortunately I'm receiving some useful automated messages that lack a Date header and this screws up the sorting in my imap clients. I have a script to fix those acting on the

Nagios/measurement with Asterisk - any plugins?
I have spent some time digging through the archives for comments concerning Asterisk and monitoring systems, and I have found few results. check_asterisk.pl.gz (http://www.dynx.net/ASTERISK/misc-progs/) which gives an error on download, and has no further Google references astping.tar (http://www.dynx.net/ASTERISK/misc-progs/ and also in the mailing list archives) supposedly sends a query to

User mapping/login issue
...again in windows 10 again. I noticed ms changed things again. Thinking here that the "older samba" your using, with a latest windows is the problem. Enable smb1 again, think that will fix a lot. And your sure you vpn line is ok and you dont have packetloss? Think in test with mtr or smokeping, something like that. Are the MTU sizes are handled by the firewall? This is to prevent IP packet fragmentation, so IPTables is set to reduce the size of packets by adjusting the packets' maximum segment size. Something like this: iptables -A PREROUTING -i ethX -p tcp -m tcp --tcp-flags S...
