[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's rights to distribute namp with its products. See: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid. In Darl McBride's recent speech at Harvard Law School, he was asked in the...

pass character vector in instrument field of get.hist.quote function
I am new to R so I apologize if my question is trivial. I have not been able to figure out whether what I want to do is even possible. I have a data frame of stock ticker symbols which I store into R space from a txt file as follows: tickers <- read.csv("stocks.txt", header=FALSE, sep=",") tickers <- tickers[1] / the tickers are stored in the first column >

syncer causing latency spikes
Hello, I'm trying to investigate and solve some postgres latency spikes that I'm seeing as a result of some behaviour in the syncer. This is with FreeBSD 8.2 (with some local modifications and backports, r231160 in particular). The system has an LSI 9261-8i RAID controller (backed by mfi(4)) and the database and WALs are on separate volumes, a RAID 6 and a RAID 1 respectively. It has

Running Samba on a masquerading router
Hi, I'm running Samba 2.2.1 on a NAT machine. Only hosts from the private net are allowed access (hosts allow and interfaces set to the private network only). My problem is that domains from the 'public' network are still appearing on my private network, albeit inaccessible. It's almost as if the browse-list mechanism is picking them up on the public interface. Is there a way

smbclient and XP
...--- XP works fine viewing samba shares (going the other way) - love the tip about disabling the XP webclient, that has sped things up. Before I expend copious quantities of blood, sweat and tears - is this something that others have run into? Is there a known solution? NEVER MIND - http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/02/24/1045935324929.html Symptom 5. I turned off simple file sharing, rebooted the XP box and all is well. Cheers j.

(not that it matters I guess... but now it makes me wonder what all the extra information is) (I also guess someone has tried reaching out to CyberPower for docs and been turned down?) Anyway -- in rewriting this, the only part I have...

Rounding and printing
Hello, I am trying to print a table with numbers all rounded to the same number of digits (one after the decimal), but R seems to want to not print ".0" for integers. I can go in and fix it one number at a time, but I'd like to understand the principle. Here's an example of the code. The problem is the 13th element, 21 or 21.0: >nvb_deaths <- round(ss[,10]/100,digits=1)

That way, someone without any of these units can test on t...

Memory limits for large data sets
Hello, I have several very large data sets (1-7 million observations, sometimes hundreds of variables) that I'm trying to work with in R, and memory seems to be a big issue. I'm currently using a 2 GB Windows setup, but might have the option to run R on a server remotely. Windows R seems basically limited to 2 GB memory if I'm right; is there the possibility to go much beyond that

Asterisk Google API applications - $4500 bounties available
In conjunction with my last post on Tellme I want to write another suggestion for an application I had. I don't know if you guys have come across Google Gas http://www.ahding.com/cheapgas But basically it is an application that this guy has developed using the Google API to search an online database on gas prices in your area. One of my strong beliefs about how Asterisk is going

Durbin-Watson
Hi, I ran an experiment with 3 factors, 2 levels and 200 replications and as I want to test for residuals independence, I used Durbin-Watson in R. I found two functions (durbin.watson and dwtest) and while both are giving the same rho, the p-values are greatly differ: > durbin.watson(mod1) lag Autocorrelation D-W Statistic p-value 1 -0.04431012 2.088610 0.012 Alternative

HP DL360 G5 better than HP DL360 G7 ?
Any tips on solving the following performance conundrum: Asterisk 1.8.12.2 running on HP DL360 G5 and G7s tcpdump running to capture UDP 5060/SIP signaling to .pcap files All calls are ultimately B2BUA client -> asterisk -> PSTN Media stays on Asterisk at all times AGI script has exit handler that connects and updates an external database upon BYE from either side. I know that if exit
