How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.xxxxxx. xxxxxx?
Still at it.... Clients: Win2k SP2 Server: OpenBSD 3.2 LPRng 3.8.20 Samba 2.7.pre1 Printer: Lanier 2138 Driver: Ricoh RPCS Tried: disable spoolss yes/no (on separate samba servers) If I print through Samba/LPRng, I get the document name of smbprn.xxxxxx.xxxxxx displayed in the 2138's log. If I print directly to LPRng through a Standard TCP/IP port, I get the correct file name displayed. Adding the -J%J parameter to the Print Command line has no effect. Other changes to the Print Command (-U%m) work as advertised. Various test method...

How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.yada.ya da?
I'm tinkering with this mod to my smb.conf, and can't get the actual filename to be displayed in the printed job history. It's adapted from one Joel put out on the list last year. My impression is that it works for everyone in the world but me.... All that ever shows up is smbprn.yada.yada... in the printer's history of printed jobs. print command = echo %J %p %s >> /tmp/junkJ;\ a="`echo '%J' | sed "s/^.*- //"`" ;\ echo This is truncated $a >> /tmp/junkJ;\ /usr/local/bin/lpr -P%p -J"$a" -U%m %s;\ rm %s Looking in /t...

Samba-CUPS interface
Hi, One of our Samba server (4.4.5) is a print server with CUPS backend . In addition we are using a print management product that is itself a backend to cups. Everything works well, except that the document names that are transmitted in the chain is of the form : "smbprn.00000648 MyDocument.pdf" . I guess that the prefix smbprn.00000648 is the samba job ID that is concatenated to the file name , that is itself transmitted to cups, and then to our third party product. Is cups able to separate the job ID and the original filename ? I did not find any parameter...

printing with option problem
I have configured samba as printer server for a Canon LBP-1760e Laser printer. All works perfectly except when I use the printer option "2 pages per sheet". I can see the smbprn.xxxxxx file in the spool directory but it is removed before beeing printed, then in the log file I can read the message : "can't open file 'smbprn.xxxxx' no such file or directory". I have the same problem using samba 2.2.7, samba 2.2.8 or samba 3.0.2. I think there is someth...

Printjobnames
Hello, I am using a cups/samba-server to printout windows printjobs. All printjobsnames from windows are start with "smbprn." and sometimes the printjobnames really long (smbprn.00000004 http://bin.brose.net/deu/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/28976/508760/509407/647076/384558/715927/PP050b_Kapitel01_HU-Management.pdf?nodeid=715933&vernum=1.pdf) Is it possible to change the printjobsname or to shorten? Sometimes I ha...

Problem with cups print job name
For some time I had been running samba 3.0.10 from RHEL4. I have a samba -> cups -> pdf printer set up which uses the user supplied job name for the output file. The job name was formatted like this "smbprn.00001020 Microsoft Word - Test.doc". Since then, RHEL have updated to samba 3.0.25. The job name supplied to cups is now a random string of characters like "smbprn.00001512.hFG4Qi". Does anyone know if there is there a way to get the old behavior back? Thanks John. -- John Ne...

Print Job Names Are Obscure

It's getting filenames like: smbprn.000413.8dCLi2 Note that there's no path on the front of that filename, like I expected with %s. And sure enough, the file isn't in /export/spool. In fact, I can't find it *anywhere*. Any ideas where it's going? ---------- David Brodbeck, System Administrator InterClean Equipme...
