Problem: I create a file on a windows machine called
sm?rebr?d.txt
and mount said drive from a Linux machine via smbmount, there it becomes:
sm?rebr?d.txt
Had this problem with local disks, too, but fixed that by adding
iocharset=iso8859-1

I am about to introduce a linux workstation into an NT network.
1) I can mount a share on an NT server as root, but not as a user:
# smbount //server/share /mnt -ousername=username/workgroup%passwd
