Tar with smbclient
Just created a new backup server using CentOS 5.0. I am using a auth file to access windows shares for backups. When connecting like this smbclient //server/share -A=/auth/file it works. When I try to tar with smbclient like this smbclinet //server/share -A=/auth/file -Tc /backup/tarfile.tar I get the following message..... session_setup_failed : NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE Am I doing something wrong? This worked just find with the older versions of Fedora and CentOS. -- Bo Lynch Systems Administrator RedHat Academy Instructor Energy M...

smbclient oddness
Hi all. I have had this apparently inconsistent behavior in smbclinet since, around 4.11.(6?). 4.11.0 seems fine. I am on fedora 31 so I have just been keeping smbclient at 4.11.0 but that is not an option in stock fedora 32 which I would like to use now. My main problem with it is that it seems to be stopping automount working on samba shares of Fed32 clients. Any...

Red Hat 8 SAMBA docs esp. those for SAMBA since this a SAMBA list
...onally think it is almost worthless (my humble opinion anyway). It is way to general and no SAMBA at all! Okay, the glossary glosses over what SAMBA does, but that is it! So far I have learned some commands like mount -o username=username, password=password, workgroup=workgroup //service /mountpoint smbclinet and some text config files like smb.conf that need lots of tweaking to get them right. I have not gotten it working yet, but my error messages do change which means I am at least making significant changes. NetworkedLaserPrinter
...e source. I have a networked HP LaserJet configured and working with cups. Samba is configured as a PDC. I would like to configure a samba print spool based on the Samba/How-to/small office. I faced with different problems at different levels: A, smbclient does not show the printer in the list (smbclinet -L //pdc_name -U username); B, I think this is not connected to the previouse problem: if I want to install the printer on an XP (already installed as 'local' printer, then); properties; ports; configure ports; network => I receive a message: no network printing protocol is installed...

Sending / Receiving WinPopup on Ubuntu Linux Workstation
Greetings- Perhaps slightly OT, but still involving the SMB/CIFS protocol: I am searching for an application which would allow a Linux client (Ubuntu) to send/receive WinPopup messages. The only one I have located thus far is LinPopup. However, it depends on the Samba (server) package. I do not want to deploy a bazillion Samba servers! TIA! -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems

Shares are not listed (Access denied)
Good Morning, I have almost the same problem. When I use smbclient -U% -L server I get a share List and Server List but instead of listing the shares it says "Error returning browse list: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied)". Using the same smbclient command on the local server the shares will be listed. The users exist in the remote server and in the smbpasswd. Anyone got an idea what

This is probably pretty simple. The following error appears in my logs since upgrading from version 2.2.8 to 3.0.1: [2003/12/25 14:44:09, 0] rpc_server/srv_util.c:get_domain_user_groups(372) get_domain_user_groups: primary gid of user [testuser] is not a Domain group! get_domain_user_groups: You should fix it, NT doesn't like that I'm guessing that my user's primary group
