smb_auth problem
Hi samba community.
I'm having a problem with the smb_auth authentication method. Everything
looks like normal, but everytime I try to use smb_auth it returns ERR.
I will show here some commands output to secure that all configuration is
correct, and if anyone can help me to investigate what's happend I'll
thanks.

smblib/auth
I need to do an smb auth in an application I'm writing.
I've looked at the source in smblib/*.c but I'm unsure
which library and which function call I should link against.
I'm looking for something like this
$result = smb_auth($user,$pass,$pdc);
so that I can check if a user/pass combination is a valid
username/password on the windows network.
What library, and what function call should I use?
I'm working with Samba 2.2.8
Thanks

Version 3.2.0pre3-9.fc9 smbclient problem
I recently installed Fedora 9 for use as a squid server. We use smb_auth
basic authorization and have run into a problem with it. I believe that I
have tracked the problem down to smbclient when the USER environmental
variable contains the userid and password. smb_auth.sh in squid uses the
USER environmental variable. Below are test results for Version

logon problems
...t would wait about 20 seconds and return me
to my logon prompt. This was for almost every user. I have one generic
user that got on all the time. Another user started getting on after
about 5 tries and was then able to authenticate each time. The rest
still did not authenticate.
When I do:
smb_auth -W DOMAIN -p sambasip -d
it makes it to the last and gives an ERR when giving the contents of
//server/netlogon/proxyauth. All the rights are correct and it contains
the word allow, nothing has changed this for 2 years so it should be
correct.
When I do:

can someone send me an example of a fstab entry for a
samba mount-point? Also, how can I use the user option
so that any user(and not just root) can mount and
umount?
Thanks!

wbinfo / NT4 PDC
I'm having a really strange problem with winbind and my NT4 PDC. The
PDC was here before I started working here, so I'm not sure what all
has been done to it. Here's the layout:
* NT4 PDC (no BDC)- Up to date with all service packs and hotfixes.
Running Cyberwall-Plus firewall.
* RHL 7.2 (2.4.9-31custom) with Samba 2.2.4 (compiled from src).
I was able to join the domain. The

Assunto: [Samba] squid authentication to samba 3
We have recently upgraded to samba3.0.2a. It runs as a PDC with WINS
support. For the past three years, we have used smb_auth within squid for
basic authentication for our students.
Is it now possible to use NTLM authentication directly to squid? From
everything that I've read, it seems to me that a windows active directory
server and winbindd are needed to do NTLM authentication.

RES: Winbind broken after 2.2.8 upgrade
...===============================================
The webinfo -u works. The one that doesn't work is SMBCLIENT for the SAMBA
from within of LINUX and the connections comings of the NT. That that left
me was perplexed. He/she/you seems that PAM not this allowing the auth or
thing of the type. The smb_auth that I use in my SQUID makes everything
right.
==============================================================
If you already have a username/pw set (by wbinfo -A), then I would suspect
that you have SMB signing required, on a 'fixed' DC (MS did not used to
enforce this).

Hiding some stuff
Hi,
Is there a way i could hide "netlogon", "profiles", "homes", etc., from my
windows 2000 users ?
Will "hide files" solves the issue, or is there another way ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Warm Regards,

cannot change user password with CTRL-ALT-DEL
I've been running samba (currently 2.2.3a-13 for Debian) as a PDC with W2k
clients for over two years. The system was up and running quite well for a
long time. A couple of days ago, I installed the following MS-patches:
MS04-011
MS04-012
MS04-013
MS04-014
MS02-011
Now when users try to change their password from the w2k clients using
CTRL-ALT-DEL, a popup window appears saying:

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all.
First, a little background...
I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake
8.2 and got everything working fine.
I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to
authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000
boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except
for their passwords
