Samba & CUPS: only banner-page gets printed
In my setup I'm running Samba 3.0.23d-19.2 and CUPS 1.2.7-12.1. Printing from a windows-client works fine, until I instruct CUPS to add a banner-page. The banner-page then is the only thing that gets printed. Doing the same from Linux everything works fine. I get my job including a banner-page. The Windows-printjob is passed raw from Samba to CUPS... Anyone has an idea? Best, Johannes

Unable to mount using sec=none and mount.cifs
I'm attempting to mount a CIFS share with the following stipulations: 1. I must have the UNIX extensions (specfically, symlinks). 2. I must use plaintext authentication (don't ask). I've recompiled the cifs kernel module to allow plaintext authentication, using the stock Ubuntu 7.10 kernel (2.6.22.9c). My /etc/fstab line looks like... //superman/www-pub

logon scripts no longer run with p-node netbios type 2
For several days (at least 4) after using DHCP to switch the NetBIOS node type from h-node (8) to p-node (2) the systems have worked fine (the lease time is only three hours so everyone was affected reasonably early). This morning, however, the logon scripts would not run until I changed the node-type back to h-node. I have found some information regarding timing issues with VPN's but

building of libnss_wins.so
It appears that nsswitch/libnss_wins.so doesn't get built when the configure option --without-winbind is specified. Is this not useful when not using winbind? I thought it would allow a wins lookup for hosts on a Samba PDC regardless of whether or not winbind was being used. Thanks. Chris

winbind passwords expiring
With samba-3.0.23d and an NT4 PDC, passwords expire for no obvious reason when using winbind for system services such as ssh(sftp). The users have no problem when accessing the Samba shares or logging onto the domain locally, but periodically windbind will expire their passwords when attempting to use such 'nix services. Any clues? Thanks, Chris

"net sam set workstations ..." prevents users from using domain resources from non-domain member systems
Running into a serious problem here with 3.0.24 + patches. The shop has a mix of domain member computers and privately owned non-domain member computers. I'm trying to use "net sam set workstations" to limit the workstations domain users can log onto. This limitation works as expected. And domain member workstations all work properly. But once the workstation limit is put in

net sam setworkstations !logic
Hello, Is there any way to use NOT logic with "net sam set workstations"? Instead of explicitly declaring which workstations are allowed, I would like to explicitly declare which ones are not on a per user basis. The reason is that many users bring in their own systems (desktops/laptops) and in order to deny them logons to administrative systems I have to limit access via "net

Painless migration from 2.2.x on old server to 3.0.x on new server needed ASAP
I need to painlessly migrate on old Samba 2.2.x installation to a new server running 3.0.x (3.0.14a for now). Time is of the essence as a hardware problem is causing intermittent operation of the old server that seems to be getting worse (actually it is looking doubtful that it will be back up at this point). I do have a backup of the smb.conf, the Samba .tdb files, /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow.

how to set valid allowed workstation logins
I'm having trouble setting the Workstations value on a tdbsam backend using pdbedit. I can't seem to find the correct syntax to accomplish this. I found some references in an older version of the HOWTO where there existed "Chapter 10. Account Information Databases". This whole chapter is missing from the current HOWTO even though it is referenced in the newest version (a

domain group mapping in 3.0.23a issues
How does one create all of the builtin groups for this release? When using tdbsam with previous releases one would automatically get such groups as: System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1 Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1 Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> -1 Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-1832519723-2688400599-3493754984-512) -> domadmin Domain Guests (S-1-5-21-1832519723-2688400599-3493754984-514)
