What actually does cause 'windows slowly moving down + right
Hi, did the search and didn't find an answer. For months now most of my windows apps, running on a minima xmonad system move slowly down down down and always to the right side. I thought, maybe some .dlls needed. I thought, maybe it's that I don't use a full desktop environment and prefer a windows manager instead (xmonad) love to know what causes this. So, basically almost anything I open (running latest wine without...

Steam and computer run very slowly
HI all, I have Wine 1.3.26 installed on my Linux Mint 11 system, and have installed Steam. Steam runs, but it runs incredibly slowly, and causes the rest of the computer to also run very slowly. The odd thing is that the games I have (Portal and Half-Life 2) seem to run fine once they get going. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or pointers about what's going on and if there is anything I can do about it? Thanks in ad...

Outlook 2002 SP3 & Dovecot 0.99.13 Runs really really slowly.
...can help with. Neither Googling or searching the list archives have turned up anything useful. I'm running Dovecot0.99.13 on Fedora Core 3 and things work fine when using either Thunderbird 1.0 or Outlook Express as clients. Outlook (2002 SP3) on the other hand runs incredibly slowly. Any ideas, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Md

smbd's using up 100% of all cpu's and load avg slowly going up
Hi, Running samba sernet 4.1.6-7, I've noticed the load avg slowly / steadily creeping up (.e.g > 100). I'm now noticing that several smbd processes are at 100%. I don't actually notice that much bandwidth usage on the system (e.g. iptraf/iftop). Any idea what's causing this? Restarting smbd helps for a few days, but then the high load avg returns....

mail open slowly
Hello, I have a dovecot IMAP server (relative small hardware: HP Microserver with 6 Gbyte RAM, linux soft RAID1 with 2x 7200 SATA disk) with 100 Gbyte maildirs. Server works fine but sometimes I can open mails slowly (5-10 sec), typical with new mails. It's intresting when I open an another old mail (with 0 sec wait), after new mail open quickly. Is it dovecot mail indexes or I/O problem? Load and CPU use is small typical 0.10, 10%, I see small IO wait. Debian 6.0, Dovecot 1.2.15, fsync and nmap is disa...

Appending <tr>''s to Table - Images in <tr>''s loading slowly.
..., it only appends the latest data). Now I am not facing any problems in doing this. It works perfectly. But, when I do a refresh, I see some problems. The <tr>''s that get generated dynamically, get appended to the table super fast but the images in the <tr>''s come so slowly. These are images for icons, clear.gifs, for borders etc. This gives the whole thing a very bad user experience. Ideally these images should have been cached because the first time we got all these so why do they come up so slowly next time? And this is only on refresh and only in Internet Explorer...

6.02 won't boot XP. 6.01 works slowly, but successfuly.
...ssage is displayed quickly. Any other actions by syslinux are terribly slow. It takes 2 to 4 minutes for the boot prompt to get displayed. Then another 2 to 4 minutes for the command to be taken. I reported here the same issue with 6.01, and possibly earlier versions. 2. 6.01 works slowly, but successfully. 6.02 works slowly, and fail. With both 6.01 and 6.02, hello.c32 is reporting the malloc issue. It takes a long time to run, but it does exit. In contrast to 6.01, the xp command for 6.02 reopts an ERR: Couldn't read the first disk sector I pressed ctrl...

WinXP clients connect slowly to Samba
Folks, Haven't been able to find any information on either issue. 1) We have Windows clients (primarily NT4sp6a and WinXP sp1) connecting to Samba servers, and it works fine but the connections are slow. They take 5-10 seconds whereas connections to native Windows servers are nearly instant. 2) The WinXP machines seem to disconnect the SMB session to the Samba servers ASAP rather than

PXE linux starts slowly
Hello, On our system (embedded Intel based board acting as server, compact pci switch, number of embedded Intel based client boards) it sometimes (guess is one of 25 starts) occurs that some client boards start very slowly. The client has received the pxelinux.0 file and now starts asking for a pxe configuration file. The server sends TFTP error indicating the file is not present (we only have a default file) but pxelinux seems not to see this response and retries the request several times with the same filename. (I...

Hi all, Originally tried to post this without being subscribed, apologies if the list gets this twice. One of my users has a problem with many of his calls via my Asterisk? server. He describes the problem as having the sound slowly fade out and then fade back at a regular frequency. Has anyone experienced this before? Can you suggest a potential cause? The client is an IAX2 soft phone running on Windows XP. Asterisk version is 1.2.4. Codec is G.711-ulaw. The user is connecting from long distance away (from clien...

Plotting slowly
Some older members of this list will remember the strange pleasure of seeing a pattern slowly emerge as points were laboriously added to a scatterplot on graph paper. A colleague (Harold Henderson, in fact) recently pointed out to me that there is some quite interesting structure in the abrasion loss data set of O. L. Davies (reprinted in the book by Hand et al) if you consider the order o...

rails running very slowly on apache (with fcgi or without)
Was wondering if there is anything obvious I may have missed in my setup that would cause it to run so slowly. WEBrick runs blazingly fast in comparison, in dev mode, so I''m sure there''s something off. Even in production mode requests take about 4 or 5 secs. Thanks! Win XP Apache 2 Rails 1.0 -rich

virsh responds slowly
Dear all, I have observed the virsh responds slowly with "virsh list" and used "strace virsh list" will find that it is waiting on the socket. I also use "netstat |grep libvirt" and see an opened socket /var/run/libvirt-sock-ro is always on and will not disappear. Is it caused by an abnormal termination of virsh API? Ot...

fullscreen uses panning, and xrandr has cursor moving
...0x960 game display at the lower right corner of the larger desktop. If I run xrandr manually before launching the game, e.g., xrandr --output default --mode 1280x960 then panning no longer occurs, so the game display stays on the screen, but now a different problem occurs: The mouse cursor moves slowly toward upper left corner by itself, as if adjusting to a scaled coordinate (maybe scaling 1920x1200 to 1280x960? I don't know.) I can move it around, but it still slowly heads toward the upper left corner. Obviously I can't control the game movement that requires the mouse, as it slowly mov...

analog phone/door buzzer going through a Sipura SPA2000 ATA dials really slowly
Hello We have setup a doorbell which has an inbuilt analog phone which is connected to our Asterisk via a SPA2000 ATA. The problem we are getting is that when a caller presses the buzzer it is taking two or more minutes to finally call the reception phone. In the SPA2000 I have set dtmfmode to be inband. I notice that with the asterisk you dial a number and then it waits for a timeout

ChrootDirectory on a per key basis
Hello, I'm trying to set up an sftp (sshfs) service accessible to users with a normal account on a server, but which would be restricted to a subset of the directory hierarchy normally accessible to the users in question, in practice a single directory. The idea would be to allow file access to this directory with a passwordless public key, but keep rest of the users file accessible only with

thin server processes slowly growing in RAM size
When I initially start up my server I have two thin processes running that are only about 200M in size. They slowly creep up a few megs an hour until now a week later they are at 400M and 300M respectively. I realize that my site (http://wlodb.com) has some intensive pages that take a couple seconds to render (most notably http://wlodb.com/compounds ) but I''m wondering if this is normal? I usually get...
