Best Practices for Data Recovery for corrupted EXT2/3?
...ss.
I would like to retain file names.. as I see that SOME filename/dir structure
is intact when the fsck starts nuking all my files that don't have a parent
dir (e.g. ../home/user/file1 --> lost+found). Is there a way that this
information can be salvaged? Or a new fake root inode be slid into place and
all the links associated?
My last ditch effort will be to allow the migration to lost+found and then try
to copy off files based on UID/GID/date, but I would really like to retain
file names.
Any related into would be useful... but my hopes are not high.

Email dictionary attacks and firewall
...st enough delay
built in to make it keep trying.... Basically making Joe's compromised
computer useless.. and maybe he'd at least turn it off if it didn't lock
up all by itself....
It is so very sad that some providers don't monitor their own people. I
see where comcast has now slid down to number 8 after holding the number
one spot as the biggest spammer network for a very long time. Good for
them! It seems the undisputed king of this world now is
verizonbusiness.com.... bad bad very bad....
Sorry.. yeah.. a bit off topic......

Desktop Effects -- questions/issues
...aining magic incantations to make
it fully work. So, I've done that and it's working.
Issues:
1. I notice that the text in the bar at the top of each window appears to be
a different font, and it is outlined in black. Is there any way to tweak
that setting?
2. If I have a window that is slid partially off the edge of an individual
desktop it now oveerlaps the edge of the one "next" to it, when it never
did before. Not sure if I like that or not, is there any way to change
that behavior should I decide I don't like it?
3. I have (and always have had) the panel settings set...

IPsec with racoon2
Hi,
I'm trying to get IPsec running between 2 FreeBSD (VMware) boxes, using racoon2.
spmd and iked start up okay, but I get an error when I try a ping across the tunnel.
/var/log/messages shows:

make install error, 4.2p1
Good day and well met.
I'm trying to compile and install openssh-4.2p1 on a Sun Ultra-250 running
Solaris 8.
It's not happy about something. I've searched the bug list and the mail
archives but haven't seen another posting about this. Apologies if there is
one and my eyes just slid right over it.
I've run a configure with the following options, and with no options at all:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/ossh --sysconfdir=/etc/ossh --with-tcpwrappers
make clean
make
make install
if test ! -z ""; then \
/usr/bin/perl ./fixprogs ssh_prng_cmds ; \

[LLVMdev] MachO non-external X86_64_RELOC_UNSIGNED
Hello everybody,
I would like some insights on the semantics of the X86_64_RELOC_UNSIGNED
relocation type. When r_extern=1, the semantics seem pretty clear:
Let x be a pointer to r_offset of appropriate size given by r_size, then
*x += addr_of_symbol(r_symbolnum)
However, when r_extern=0 the correct behavior is not clear. By analogy with
the above, I would have expected
*x +=

yum, dag and xawtv
...the dependency nightmares and wanted a system
that "just worked". The FreeBSD ports system did just that for me. I
HATE doing the rpm soup thing. RPM finders are nice but I'd rather just
use something like the FreeBSD port system to handle all dependency
issues for me.
But I've slid back into Linux and found CentOS. Boy, have things
changed a bit since I was last here :) I have to admit, yum gives me
that functionality that I was very happy with FreeBSD - the ports
system. It's not exactly the same but I LIKE yum a lot! I am noticing a
couple of problems dealing with YU...

Hello,
i am searching now the R-Documentation many hours, but i cannot find a
solution to my problem. I hope, i can solve my issue with R.
i have data-tables, 15*40 data-tables
i want to visualise this.
this example-code i copied makes a 3x3-grid:
x <- 0:12
y <- sin(pi/5 * x)

RELENG_6_1
Hi,
According to the webpage [1], 6.1 has been branched on April 5. However,
I noticed that there is a tag called RELENG_6_1, not a branch called
RELENG_6_1. For example, sys/conf/newvers.sh [2], rev 1.69.2.11,
is on RELENG_6 branch with tag RELENG_6_1_BP and RELENG_6_1.
It is a bit strange for me. At least, we have RELENG_X_Y branch before
and RELENG_X_Y_BP tag. Is there any special reason that

Firewall for virtual machines
I realize I'm not getting a lot of questions answered here lately, and
I'm going to presume that this is for legitimate reasons (i.e., people
don't know or are too busy to think about it), not because they seem
stupid (if they do, please tell me, on the list or privately).
I run Windows as a VMWare guest on top of my CentOS host, and I
generally have not used a firewall on the guest.

Polycom Setup Questions
OK I have just gone live with asterisk in a new office with approx 40
Polycom 501 handsets. I have a few questions:
1) Call Parking: I am able to park calls using the standard Asterisk
call parking system (transfer to ext *70 etc...) I would like to make
this a little easier for my users The Polycom 501s w/ SIP 1.5.2 seem to
support some type of standard call parking, however I don't

That's a very good point never thought of that. Acrtually this RAID 1 setup I'm planning
is for my desktop machine, problem is is's not built like a server so there is not the traditional
slid in bay for a second PS as do many 1 and 2u rack servers have. Unless there is some
specialty product available that somehow fits in to a tower case.
Could you reccomend a redundant PS for a desktop machine (if they exist)?

paging mechanism clarification
paging mechanism clarification
Hi All,
The Xen uses 2 level Paging Mechanism to resolve the Virtual Addresses into frame numbers from domU.The first level is taken care by the MMU for the domU i.e translation from virtual address to the physical address just like normal paging mechanism. The second level of translation is done by the Xen hypervisor. It translates the pseduo physical address
