R on Ubuntu
Hi everyone, first of all, my sincerest thanks for the maintainers of this massive project. Such a compelling task! Briefly, I?m a PhD student working on Spatial Stats who loves R. Last week I decided to install and use Ubuntu (again). Consequently, I install the latest release (18.04) and tried to install R 3.5.0 as well but (un)fortun...

Re: using shapefile as owin
My sincerest apologies, as this is a very elementary problem, but I have searched through archives and FAQs and on the web, and I am at the end of my own resources. I need to do analysis of a spatial point process occuring with four counties, using spatstat. I've had no trouble importing the shapefiles, bu...

Some questions on repeated measures (M)ANOVA & mixed models with lme4
.... Could anyone point me to a basic explanation of the procedure? 4. Provided the assumptions for ANOVA hold, or that deviations from them are not horrible, am I correct in saying that this procedure would be the most powerful one? How would you choose solution A over solution B (or viceversa)? My sincerest gratitude to anyone who will take the time to answer my questions! Best Regards, Marco

Mac OS X installer: missing files fix
I've paraphrased the OS X installer developer's comments: there's a bug in Installer that is preventing the archive from working right. Below is the fix for the problem. First (obviously) run the installer. Since the executables are in the archive.pax.gz file in the installer package, first do a "show package contents" on the package file, then unstuff the enclosed

documentation widget
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ... I am thinking of imitating the R documentation mechanism. I have a largeish software project that needs documentation for each of the functions/modules. The ability to create html, latex, and pdf documentation from one source is very attractive. Since my collaborators already...

It is my sincerest hope that the term "FRAID" (or something else) catches on to describe this "Free RAID" / "trick BIOS" approach. -- Bryan J. Smith mailto:b.j.smith at ieee.org

problems with shared segments
A couple of weeks ago I noted that shared segments weren't working. Alexandre said that he fixed it. I wasn't in the position to build a fresh wine at the time. I am now but it doesn't seem to work still. I replicated the problem with a test exe, the basic Hello, World generated by MS VC 6 for a Windows program, with a single variable in a shared segment that is statically

Pb with 2.0.6/2.0.7 and browsing
Hello, When my Samba is the local master browser, it doesn't appear in the Network Neighborhood of the client. There is only the client itself. When the client (Windows NT 4 Workstation) is the local master, the Network Neighborhood shows the only two nodes that I have on my test network, ie the Samba server and the NT 4 Workstation. For the browsing, I use the default

Best small server config
Hi, Busy with dovecot on a linux server with not very much RAM in it (512 MB max total). On this server dovecot will only handle about 12 users, with never more than 3 IMAP webmail users at a time, and a maximum of 2 POP3 users at a time using it. I'm going all secure later on, but first I would like your opinion on what configuration best to use with, say, max 5 users busy at one time, and

VoiceConduits - Notice
Hello, This is David Deutsch, and I'm the owner of VoiceConduits. There seems to be some confusion related to our company, regarding the past few posts. VoiceConduits is currently NOT open for public business, we have never to date advertised or attempted to attract business. It appears that a few people heard about our company via a mention in a SineApps article and found our beta

Dude, this isn't about "right and wrong." It's _never_ about that. It's about my sincerest wish not to see you with downtime. It's one thing for me to argue "good" v. "ideal," take it as you wish. But that's very, very, _very_ different than this. In this case, I'm arguing "proper" v. "risky" system design. But it's your system....
