Rosewill RSV-S8 Storage Enclosure Support
I'm trying to get RSV-S8 working with Citrix XenServer 5 update 3 (which I believe runs CentOS 5.something). I have the Rosewill card that comes with it in there (sil3132 based). It's seeing the card, and seeing all my drives. I fdisk the drives and I can create the partitions, but I am unable to set up either software raid or create filesystems. I keep getting errors saying that the volumes are in use (although they do not appear to be mounted anywhere)....

ZFS - first steps
Hi folks, Just recently set-up my first OSOL box, have some Linux background but am TOTALLY new to OSOL, so please bear with me. I''m looking to expand usage of PM capable hardware (port multilier). This will allow to add extensive hd''s. At the moment I''m using a Sil3132 based PCIe card, which is recognized fine. The card is configured to use the esata port on the back. To this I connect a disk array consisting of maximum 5 hd''s. I can see they are recognized and connected because the hd''s led''s light up. (f.y.i. did some testing under...

HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie. I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically mount it. This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to hotplug it; that is, plug the controller into the laptop, and then plug the drive in...

7-disk raidz achieves 430 MB/s reads and 220 MB/s writes on a $1320 box
I figured the following ZFS ''success story'' may interest some readers here. I was interested to see how much sequential read/write performance it would be possible to obtain from ZFS running on commodity hardware with modern features such as PCI-E busses, SATA disks, well-designed SATA controllers (AHCI, SiI3132/SiI3124). So I made this experiment of building a fileserver by

[osol-help] Help! Bricked my 2009.06 OpenSolaris snv_111b NFS host (long)
...n case. Okay, I''ll try a LiveCD and see whether it still reboots. Additional information: I started a zpool scrub of my root pool and my storage pool. After a few minutes the machine spontaneously rebooted. And: I''m running a pool with two mirrors: a pair of 500GB on a two-port Sil3132 PCI-e card, and a pair of 1TB drives on the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard.

Going from 6 to 8 disks on ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
My current home fileserver (running Open Solaris 111b and ZFS) has an ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE motherboard. This has 6 SATA connections, which are currently all in use (mirrored pair of 80GB for system zfs pool, two mirrors of 400GB both in my data pool). I''ve got two more hot-swap drive bays. And I''m getting up towards 90% full on the data pool. So, it''s time to expand,

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -
