conditional selection with Factors

It seems if a logical variable is created, and the subsetting on a factor variable won't work directly.(It works directly for numeric variables)
Can anyone help please.

Create factors in R for more than one variable
..., because the data is coded numerically.
To make factors out of the 50 questions I must do:
V1 <- factor(V1)
I don't want to do it 50 times. Is there a quicker way without using loops?

Sharing a Secondary Hard Drive
I just recently installed a second hard drive in my Samba server with the
hopes of sharing it with the rest of my home network. It seems like Samba
can not get the correct permissions to the drive, however. I have the
drive mounted under /media/public, and when I try to map a share directly
to it and open the share with a client, I get an
