Extreme bunching of random values from runif with Mersenne-Twister seed
Martin,
Thanks for the helpful reply. Alas I had forgotten that (implied)
unfavorable comparisons of *nix systems with Windows systems would likely
draw irate (but always substantive) responses on the R-devel list -- poor
phrasing on my part. :)
Regardless, let me try to address some of the concerns related to the
construction of the MRE itself and try to see if we can clean away the

OT: Managing change control in servers, LDAP, firewalls and switches question
Hi, being an off-topic questions with so many vendors involved I had
no definitive place to go to ask but here. So maybe some of the list
members have ideas in mind.
Currently we manage several switches, firewalls and MS LDAP and Centos
OpenLDAP installations.
We are looking for a "man in the middle" or "framework" to manage
change on our network devices and LDAP-based servers.

Problems with lattice plot
Hello useRs,
I have some problems when I try to plot a lattice. The lattice has 200
columns (X value) and 5 rows (Y value), with a total of 1000 squares. I
want to plot this lattice with the squares having different colours
according to a variable value.
The variable I want to plot is cover value of a shrub, and it has values
between 0 and 1. I want to plot the squares with value 1,

puppet for switches
This might be a crazy idea, but it just popped into my head, and I
wanted to know if it''s possible. Perhaps not possible right now, but
possible in a theoretical sense.
Is it possible that puppet could be modified to be used to manage
switches that have a command line based interface?
When I manage our Allied Telesis switches (which have a CLI similar to
cisco IOS) I wonder if I could

[cfe-dev] Fwd: Raising CMake minimum version to 3.4.3
As one of the OS' without current CMake support, I'm closely watching this discussion. We currently have LLVM 3.4.2 hosted on OpenVMS Itanium (as a host only, x86 target) using configure/make with little hassle. We plan to port CMake to OpenVMS, but that has been trickier than you'd think (others have tried, I haven't found anybody who has done it). Looks like I'll want to

Extreme bunching of random values from runif with Mersenne-Twister seed
This is cross-posted from SO (https://stackoverflow.com/q/47079702/1414455),
but I now feel that this needs someone from R-Devel to help understand why
this is happening.
We are facing a weird situation in our code when using R's [`runif`][1] and
setting seed with `set.seed` with the `kind = NULL` option (which resolves,
unless I am mistaken, to `kind = "default"`; the default being
