hosts allow on smb.conf
...is risky
or not, our samba was setup as a DC, and client computers already join
to Linux Domain. The VPN protocol is using ipsec and the samba is
inside the network which has Firewall protected.
Kindly please advice if any comments about that.

General question about 'smbclient'
As above,
From what I understand (also obvious from the package name) is that
'smbclient' is only a client.
You can browse shares or use it for troubleshooting. Does it have any
affect on the actual samba server?
I mean does this package have to be installed in order for a samba
server to work properly?
It seems to be that this package can be removed, I just want to make
sure that

Difficulty converting from RH 7.3 to Debian Sarge
I am running debian sarge 2.4.27-3-686 and samba version 3.0.14a-Debian
. The previous machine was running rh 7.3 (valhalla) 2.4.20-29.7.progeny.11, samba version unknown. I have restored all shares and directories. Most of users can access everything, however our login script will not run. For those users that cannot log in re-joining them to the domain not only works but then the login

Migrate to Debian Etch - nogo
Hi Everyone,
I have a small project going on. I'm about to migrate Redhat 7.3 to
Debian Etch (smbd version 3.0.23d-2+b1).
I've already managed to migrate Redhat 7.3 to Debian Sarge (smbd version
3.0.14a-) without any bigger problems.
However, when I migrate to Etch I face a small problem. The last thing I
