Experimental FreeBSD ports / packages for test61
...d and added a patch I wrote a long time ago for ioloop kqueue/kevent support in Dovecot. I have no configure skill at all so you get it even if you don't choose it in the options dialogue. It seems to work still, I tested it very lightly, but I don't use day to day, so YMMV. To use the shar file: gzip -d <path/to/dovecot.shar.gz> shar <path/to/dovecot.shar> cd dovecot make install To use the package: pkg_add -r http://www.helenmarks.co.uk/~dom/dovecot/dovecot-1.0-test61.tbz Cheers, -- Dominic

smcp.shar (was linking object files)

The smcp.shar archive was specific for simulations in an Ann.Stat. paper a couple of years ago, and the interface would need rewriting to work on other data. I haven't tried running in R. The methods can be implemented with locfit, using left and right smooths. This ex...

Regularly being asked for username/password
I'm a bit of a noob w/ samba and I set up a small samba shar (v. 3.4.0) on my ubuntu machine which hosts a shared drive for a single vista laptop (my wife's machine). My question is .. is it normal for her to regularly be asked to enter her username and password or is it something that I've done in my configuration. Note: I used the configurati...

small security-related rsync extension
Included below is a shar archive containing two patches that together: 1) make backup files get their setuid and setgid bits stripped by default 2) add a "-s" option that allows backup files to continue to have these privileges This means that if you update a collection of binaries with rsync, and one or more...

FreeBSD trusted execution system: beta testers wanted
...cribes the technical implementation in greater detail. The mac_chkexec policy logic can be found here: http://people.freebsd.org/~csjp/mac/trustedexec.png Q: What is mac_chkexec? A: It's a mandatory access control policy which ensures that if the code contained in a binary, shell script, shared object or kernel module has been modified from it's "trusted" form, it can not be executed. It also ensures that untrusted code can not be executed. I.E. If an adversary uploads an agent or rogue program, it should not be executed. In addition, dependencies are supporte...

R 0.65.x bug : attach()/eval() {was "lib.source() within library()"} (PR#264)
In 0.65.0 lib.source() within library() works differently and fails to correctly "load" a library when it wants to change an object that it has defined previously: Below is a very short shar file that produces a "minimal" example [no attachment, just appended]. To reproduce {read on, before doing it!} do sh < libBug.shar <<<<< the file name you gave R INSTALL libBug echo 'library(libBug)' | R --vanilla --quiet which gives Error: at...

Runnable R packages
...file that contains an initial "main" function plus a set of bundled code (potentially as a package) and which when run will install its package code (which is contained in itself, its not in a repo), install dependencies, and run the main() function. Now, I could build a self-executable shar file that bundled a package together with a script to do all the above. But if there was a "RUN" command in R, and a convention that a function called "foo::main" would be run by `R CMD RUN foo_1.1.1.tar.gz` then it would be so much easier to develop and test. If people think t...

Samba 1.9.18p8 shared read-only?
Hi, I recently upgraded to 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 and am having a problem with writable services other than [homes]. [apps] is one that's causing the most difficulty. Users are being logged into writable shares as user 'nobody' and are not permitted write access. The shares are set as 'writable' and 'write ok'. host equiv does not have an effect either. All hosts are local to the subnet which is explicitly allowed. Hosts are win98. This worked prior to the upgrade of Samba....

Okay here is a little shar file which contains a little more; it also includes (the S code for) my experiments on what S-plus's set.seed(.) does. The C code must be compiled (cc and ld) ``a la R'' before dyn.load. I did not yet test this in R, but I CC: it to R-devel since others may want to comment. [append...
