Wine doesn't load an application-provided DLL
I'm trying to get SfArk (http://melodymachine.com/) to work under Wine. Yes, there's a (proprietary) Linux version on the website, but it won't decompress some files, so I need to use the Windows version. The installer runs fine, but when it's time to load the program Wine complains about "lsunpa32.dll&q...

Compressing sound fonts with FLAC
I've been doing some more tests with compressing sound fonts with FLAC. It compares quite well with sfArk which is a common compression used on the internet for sound fonts, unfortunately its not open. For the most part, in my tests, sfArk beats FLAC in compression, but thats not surprising as I am compressing entire sound fonts which include non-audio data as well. The average compression ratio for 8...

More FlacPak stuff
...specification and it will likely change. I now have a FlacPakEncoder API in the libInstPatch library (haven't checked anything into CVS yet though), and I've written a file handler for SoundFont files. Initial tests seem pretty good when comparing compressed file size to other formats like sfArk. Here is a test I did with a rather large (120MB) SoundFont containing many mono and stereo 16 bit samples (the stereo is encoded from separate mono samples). original: Fluid.sf2 124431652 100% bzip: Fluid.sf2.bz2 99610380 80.05% - Takes a long time FlacPak: Fluid.sf2.flacp...

FlacPak
...compression (especially those that don't write clients for other operating systems). Even windows users have experienced this with sfpack, since they recently stopped supporting it. Nothing more annoying then downloading a zip or rar instrument file only to find it has also been compressed with sfark or sfpack. I guess the sfark people deserve some credit, they have at least been promising a Linux client for a few years now (still no sign of it though). I was thinking of making FlacPak associated with flac (seems appropriate since flac will be the primary technology used in the format), so I wa...

Compressing sound fonts with FLAC
...s would be necessary for many samples. I guess varying blocksize compression is really what would be the best. Any ideas of when this might be available? Compression is good as things stand now, although not optimal. I compressed a 118MB sound font to 64MB with FLAC which was only 3MB difference to sfArk (only 170k of this is non-audio data which would be more significant with smaller sound fonts). Lates.. Bug with FLAC raw encoding
...atch. I'm excited about FLAC!! I've been looking for a good GPL lossless RAW audio compressor for use with sound fonts. Sound font files contain 16 bit samples that are word aligned, so just treating it as raw audio does quite well. I've already tested it on one sound font, and it beat sfArk by a few K. It would be neat to add support to my application the Smurf Sound Font Editor (http://smurf.sourceforge.net) for FLAC sound font compression. Lates.. FlacPak
I posted to this list a couple years back and then again sometime a year ago about using Flac to compress SoundFont instrument files. I never got around to finalizing the specification for that project, and I have since realized that a more generic approach would be better. I registered the "SFFL" Sound Font FLAC application meta data ID. I would like to remove that, since it was never
