GID mappings of built-in groups when addin additional dc
...essage "*NOTE: Only do this if you are running a version of Samba before 4.2.0 or are using the built-in winbind.*" but I'm not sure if in my environment I have to make this step. I have installed and configured samba 4.4.5 from sources and only added https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member#libnss_winbind https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Libnss_winbind_links In my environment is needed tdbbackup when you adds second dc? Thanks

id shows only primary group on domain member server
...i, know I have another problem. I compiled samba 4.4.4 on a Centos 7.2 Server no special options for ./configure. Afterwards I followed the article from mentioned below wiki article below, to join Centos 7.2 as an member server to our existing AD. WIKI Article: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member Now, if i type id USERNAME I only get the users UID, GID and only the GID as the supplementary Group no more groups are showing up. What have I missed? Thanks Guys Daniel

Configuration of smb.conf for Active Directory authentication
I've been working through a guide documenting how to do this at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member and am presently deciphering what needs I have in my winbind configuration. In doing so, I've come across the 'passdb backend = ldapsam' option and am curious if I can use this, and if it is wise, identifying that key exchange is complex and a vulnerability at times, but it does provi...

How to join join Ubuntu desktop to AD
Hello, Does the wiki contain documentation on how to join a Linux workstation to Samba? I can't seem to find it. I do see this https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member but this appears to use SSH to login. I'm looking to login locally. I used PBIS in the past and enabled the Login prompt as seen here http://askubuntu.com/questions/451950/how-to-configure-lightdm-to-allow-manual-logins-in-ubuntu-14-04. Can I follow the wiki and just enable the login pro...

I've ridden this doc, correct me if I'm wrong, but It explain how to join a domain for workstation/fileserver/other. After configuring and joining the domain, winbind in nsswitch.conf permit to see other user on the new member...

Joining Samba workstation as a Domain Member - Which is the correct way?
Hi everyone, In my environment I am running a Domain Controller, on ubuntu 16.04, samba v 4.11. My doubt is now on joining workstations to this domain. I was adding joining the command "samba-tool domain join...", however, I found in the samba page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member a note to don't use samba-tool: " The domain join *_A note on provisioning_:*A Domain Member_must not_be provisioned by using "samba-tool"! This would setup an AD DC on your Domain Member with some parts turned off and writes to sam.ldb instead of passdb.tdb. Don't...

using chown on server with Domain username
Hi. I'm following this document: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member - setting up my second Samba server in a test environment. We're planning a medium to large-scale deployment (six sites, 8 domain controllers, 8 NAS boxes, 120 workstations). I've already set up an AD Controller and successfully joined a Windows workstation to it. I got down to the p...

Wiki content announcement
Hello my latest content updates: * https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member New page. It replaces the old "Member Server" page, which shows now just a notice (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server) Everything to know is described on the new "Domain Member" page. In combination with the file-/printserver and other docs...

Samba4 Domain Member Server "Getent show diferents UID"
...oned without rfc2307 and we did later. The problem is that at that time by not having infrastructure had to be used as fileserver and this was a problem because all directories are UID of 3000000 onwards. Now I installed a new server following the procedure here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member All seems to work well but UIDs are different when for example I run wbinfo --user-info = uanaco Primary AD-DC ADDC1 \ uanaco: *: 3000783: 100: uanaco: / home / ADDC1 / uanaco: / bin / false member Server uanaco: *: 100642: 100008: uanaco: / home / ADDC1 / uanaco: / bin / false This is a prob...

Try setting up your domain member correctly see here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member and here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Idmap_config_ad As you have Mac clients, it might be a good idea to use vfs_fruit, try reading 'man vfs_fruit' Setup correctly, you wont have windows, Mac and Unix users, you will just have AD users. Hai, marcio, below pointed a thing ..    https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member#Using_domain_accounts.2Fgroups_in_OS_commands   This looks wrong to me.   Using domain accounts/groups in OS commands administrator:*:10000:10000:Administrator:/home/Administrator:/bin/bash   We should not use administrator as example...  In this example we now have 2 ! administrators...

Problem joining an AD
Rowland penny <rpenny at samba.org> schrieb: > Can I suggest you have a look here: > https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Main_Page Well, I got it! I found this HowTo: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member and now it works! I'm puzzled why on other Servers the previous configuration works, but if I have now this Server, too, with a working Samba I'm happy and can look for easter eggs... :D Just another question: can someone explain me why the Windows-PCs did not execute the Logon-Scripts?...
