net setlocalsid for doimain doesn't work as wanted

"net setlocalsid" question
Hi, I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID <oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued 'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine. But when I issue "net groupmap list" all the SID prefixes still show the old SID. Did I do something wrong? Did it not work sinc...

How can I change the localSID for a SAMBA Server?
I am trying to change the localSID for a SAMBA server, however I am unable to. I have tried the command "net setlocalsid" to no avail. To troubleshoot I have also stopped the smbd and nmbd services, but this did not help. Any help would be great! root at TheWiggle:~# net getlocalsid SID for domain THEWIGGLE is: S-1-5-21-748580849-194208185-3916830000 root at TheWiggle:~# net getdomainsid SID for local machine...

Need proper steps for correct use of net setlocalsid
Hi, all. I have discovered that I botched a migration from a 2.2.8a Samba PDC to Samba 3.3.4; in particular the domain sid was not preserved. Users of the domain have been authenticating presumably against cached local machine credentials, mapping them to their old domain SIDS. That's ultimately how I discovered the domain SID had been trashed - every machine started showing unmapped users

Samba & SIDs
...of a problem as I had everything backed up but I'm now in the position that I have a mismatched Domain SID. If I run net getlocalsid I get the sid for the server (called smb0) and net get local sid <domain> returns the sid for the Domain. I need to recover the original domain SID but setlocalsid changes the SID for the machine. As it is, people can log onto the domain but I can't set up any new accounts or change user details with smbldap-tools. Any help appreciated, Cheers, Jools

Changing domain name
...in before myself, we currently have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about 15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux domain clients. A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid. I started doing this when I noticed something [The PDC machine name is North]: north:~# net getlocalsid SID for domain NORTH is: S-1-5-21-2864586203-3687421127-69847892 north:~# net getlocalsid WARLOCK SID for domain WARLOCK is: S-1-5-21-403220451-921850273-241492889 According to this in the...

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
...enough, because net getlocalsid gives SID of DOMAIN MYDOMBDC is s-1-5-21-.... which is not the same like the SID of MYDOM. net getlocalsid MYDOM gives the right SID on BDC. on PDC "net getlocalsid" and "net getlocalsid MYDOM" produces the same SID so should i also do "net setlocalsid <SID_OF_MYDOM> on BDC" or is it not wise to have 2 machines with the same SID on the network although they're linux??? btw:|* i have a samba v3 setup like: PDC -> LDAP master, with secondary slave LDAP server. BDC -> LDAP slave server, with secondary master LDAP server. i...

Change Domain SID
Is there a way to change SAMBA Domain SID? My SAMBA PDC Server hard drive crashed. I have created a new install with new Samba PDC Server. I know my old Domain SID. Is there a way to change the New Domain SID to original SID? I have read losts of thread here. I have tried "net setlocalsid SID" command on the SAMBA PDC Server. But, that did not change the Domain SID. I have tried other commands as well. Thanks much. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze.

Re: samba Digest, Vol 55, Issue 18
What's wrong with WARLOCK? Just kidding. If you don't like it, change it, but do expect problems. It's not something you will find a recipee for in a How-to book. The SETLOCALSID changes only the LOCAL SID, not the GLOBAL SID, for which we would probably need SETGLOBALSID. When I faced the same problem, I did something really wrong but it worked. I copy-pasted the LOCAL SID to the GLOBAL SID in "secrets.tdb". Now in your case, it would probably be even easier to...

Seamless update from Samba 2 to Samba 3 on a new server
...39;ve caught SID of the old machine, with the smbpasswd -X SMBDOM, which is the same than the one I get with smbpasswd -X PDC. Now, I've installed my Samba 3 server on the new machine, which uses the same hostname and the same Netbios name. I've set the SID to the old domain one, using net setlocalsid olddomainsid, and net setlocalsid olddomainsid. I've also copied the smb.conf, and the secrets.tdb, and done the group mappings. Here is the result of the net groupmap list command : testpdc:/var/log/samba# net groupmap list Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-2616637325-650964048-2930221742-512) -> a...

Domain SID issue
...ith an underscore in it : samba_machine I had to get rid of the underscore names and changed the name to samba-machine. At the same time I upgraded to samba-3.0.11 to get a printer queue problem resolved. Now it seems the Domain SID has changed, so I changed the new SID back to the old one with net setlocalsid, because on all machines I had problems with logging in as domain Administrator (which was added as a local administrator , but with the old SID, so instead of the domain administrator name the old SID was listed as a local administrator) and moreover, all the machines seem to have lost their doma...

Moving a Samba PDC from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4
...and delete the virtual network interface. When I did that, the Windows XP clients can't login in the Domain anymore. After some investigation I found out that the SIDs of the domain and of the Linux-host are not the same than before on the Solaris host. When I change the SIDs with "net setlocalsid" and "net setdomainsid" to the original ones it seems to work again. Any ideas why that happens? Is this the expected behavior (because of the hostname change)? Do I have something else to change to test the PDC move? Best regards, Ralf

Migration to 3.0.2a
...ee. 3. I?ve changed all the necessary paths in the smb.conf file to point out the right locations within the new, samba3 directory structure. 4. I?ve checked the file by running ?testparm? 5. I?ve extracted the SID by running ?net getlocalsid? command 6. removed secrets.tdb from samba3 and run ?net setlocalsid <extracted_value>?. This created a new version of the file. 7. started samba3. I could see the Samba server from my W2k pro box, but when trying to access it, I just got the login dialog, but couldn?t log in. 8. tested also ?pdbedit ?Lv?, but couldn?t see anything wrong. 9. I?ve also tried to...

Migrating from a WinNT 4 PDC to Samba 3 PDC Troubles
...rent domain is SERVER2 rather than DOM. Running net rpc setsid DOM simply adds the SID of the domain to secrets.tdb but doesn't switch its insistence of SERVER2 being the domain rather than DOM. A call to net rpc testjoin says things are AOK & that I'm in the domain DOM. Running net setlocalsid SERVER2 SID of DOM changes the SID of the SERVER2 domain to be the same as the of DOM, but just causes authentication errors when running net rpc vampire as it still thinks that the domains have different names. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem would be most appreciated. I'...
