net getlocalsid and net getlocalsid <domain>
Hi,
does the output of the two commands really mean that the server FILESERVER
is not in the domain?:
# net getlocalsid
SID for domain FILESERVER is: S-1-5-21-4161338278-3756552359-245403906
# net getlocalsid <domainname>
SID for domain <domainname> is: S-1-5-21-2018781741-1218349122-1862352094
Is there another method to check if a server is in a domain?
Can I use 'net rpc testjoin' to see if th...

a little problem with net getlocalsid
My samba PDC is working very well. I only have an 'theoretical' question
(I think). When I run 'net getlocalsid my-pdc', it fails (see below). I
think this is because someday the name of my pdc was other! In fact 'net
getlocalsid my-old-pdc-name' works! and that output is the same output
obtained from running 'net getlocalsid my-domain' (as written on the
docs). Please, look at thi...

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something [The PDC machine name is North]:
north:~# net getlocalsid
SID for domain NORTH is: S-1-5-21-2864586203-3687421127-69847892
north:~# net getlocalsid WARLOCK

net getlocalsid: some questions
Hello,
Is it possible to get the SID of a domain different than the one your
server is in?
e.g.: net getlocalsid ==> gives you the sid of the domain your server is in.
but suppose you would like to know the SID of another domain.
net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 ==> samba3 does not give the SID
[root@server root]# net getlocalsid DOMAIN2

Domain SID issue
..., and the machines still don't recognize their accounts.
So the situation:
All machines and domain administrator have accounts at domain sid : OLD-SID
Apparently the domain sid has changed to : NEW-SID , I try
to set NEW-SID back to OLD-SID with "net setlocalsid OLD-SID",
command net getlocalsid returns now : OLD-SID , instead of NEW-SID
I restored the groupmapping, so all entries in the groupmap list command
show the OLD-SID again,
net getlocalsid : returns OLD-SID
net getlocalsid <DOMAIN> : returns OLD-SID
net getlocalsid samba-machine : returns OLD-SID

I noticed the following:

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi,
After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except
for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but
plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary:
system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master,
wins server, domain master browser, no iptables;
system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0, running SuSE10.0, LDAP slav...

net getlocalsid returns hostname as domain && net rpc vampire fails
...sed smbldap-populate from smbldaptools)
I used "net setlocalsid" to set my LINBDC SID to the WINNTDOMAIN SID.
I registred LINBDC as a BDC on WINPDC. I can join the domain with LINBDC.
Samba is not running, and "net rpc vampire -w WINNTDOMAIN ..." fails.
When I do "net getlocalsid", I get : domain LINBDC with SID S-1234
(the workgroup defined in smb.conf is WINNTDOMAIN).
when I do net getlocalsid WINNTDOMAIN, I get : domain WINNTDOMAIN with
SID S-1234 (the same SID as above) as a response from the WINPDC.
WINPDC and LINBDC have the same SID, but LINBDC has its hostnam...

Domain = TESTDOMAIN
Windows Box Name = TESTPDC
Linux Box = LINUXPDC
I have joined the windows pdc from the linux box. Next I use: net getsid

here. Next I use net getlocalsid which gives me an error so I use net
getlocalsid TESTDOMAIN which gives me the correct SID. I then use net

use net getlocalsid which gives me:

"net setlocalsid" question
.... I've got a production instance of Samba
running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the
same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID
<oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued
'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine. But when I issue
"net groupmap list" all the SID prefixes still show the old SID. Did I do
something wrong? Did it not work since I have another instance of Samba
running? Is this something to be alarmed about? Also, if I do "net

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
...domain SID
with the newly created BDC SID. There is a procedure that will allow the
BDC to aquire the domain SID. This is described here.
To retrieve the domain SID from the PDC or an existing BDC and store it
in the |secrets.tdb|, execute:
|root# |*|net rpc getsid
is this enough, because net getlocalsid gives
SID of DOMAIN MYDOMBDC is s-1-5-21-.... which is not the same like the SID of MYDOM.
net getlocalsid MYDOM gives the right SID on BDC.
on PDC "net getlocalsid" and "net getlocalsid MYDOM" produces the same SID
so should i also do "net setlocalsid <SID_OF_MYDOM>...

No local SID -- net getlocalsid fails

Weird 'net getlocalsid' problem (Samba + LDAP)
...FC3 x86_64 version). I'm following the
instructions on the IDEALX site. I've done this before with older
versions. It appears some things have changed in LDAP, Samba, and the
smbldap-tools, but for the most part the procedure is the same.
The problem I'm getting is with the 'net getlocalsid'. When I run
this command, I get the usual output. However, it always says the SID
for the Hostname, not the Domain. Even when the smb service is
running in domain controller mode, I can't get any output from 'net
getlocalsid DomainName'. I get the following response: "Can&...

net getlocalsid can't fetch domain SID?
I'm running into an odd problem with my installation of samba, version
3.0.13. Samba is configured to use the tdbsam backend and is running as a
PDC. The issue is that samba can't seem to report its SID correctly:

SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam).
I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors
with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with
my config.
The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return:
