Installing SerNet Samba for Debian
I've got myself in a bit of a pickle trying to install the latest
Samba 3.6.20-31 package from SerNet on a Debian Wheezy server. The
installed Debian version of Samba was 3.6.6.
It's an off-line test server, and I'm still getting to grips with
Debian, so no harm done, but I'd like to know the proper procedure
to install this software!

Are you setting up a AD DC or old style NT PDC ?
see :
/etc/default/sernet-samba to "classic". for NT PDC
/etc/default/sernet-samba to "ad". for AD DC.

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Yes, it did install a bunch of packages from the sernet site.
So far all the tests are failing. Seems that Sernet put samba under
slightly different directories so I am struggling with testing.
I was hoping there was some documentation on sernet site that I was
having trouble finding, obviously not.
Give me some time. It is just different again (from CentOS howto I had
used in the past.)

One of the Centos 7 arm developers built the sernet 4.2 for me to start
testing.
http://repo.shivaserv.fr/centos/7/shivaserv-sernet.repo
and
http://repo.shivaserv.fr/centos/7/sernet/armv7hl/
Since these were built on qemu, not requiring specific armv7 hardware,
Perhaps at some point they can be adopted by Sernet. But for now, how
to test....
I don't see any specific Sernet

It all depends on what is meant by supported, Debian/Ubuntu supports
their packages and Sernet supports their Samba packages. Why should
Sernet support something they do not supply ? Sernets packages work as a
complete system, they do not need to support the use of sssd with their
packages, their packages work without it.
You could try contacting Sernet on contact at sernet.de

Fwd: Installing EnterpriseSamba (Sernet-samba) on Ubuntu
I will add here that my server provisioned yesterday afternoon. However,
I did not have time to do any testing.
So, this morning testing and the first thing I discovered was
"sernet-samba-ad" service was NOT running.
I found a Debian Wheezy sernet samba posting (via Google) and within it
read that users need to edit "/etc/default/sernet-samba" as follows:

Thank you Hector. Despite my poor spanish, I can see that I need to
check what dependencies are loading with Sernet-samba.
More tomorrow when I am at a better machine to communicate with the
forum on.
Thanks.

I looked at these once, Rowland. I am a novice and not wanting to run
bind9 for the dns (one ADDC and three, maybe four clients) the
SAMBA_INTERNAL DNS has always work fine for me in testing.
These scripts were a "little too advanced" for my experience. (Not that
it won't serve anyone else quite well.)
Just surprised that there is so little, almost non-existent
documentation for

As the SerNet Samba Build key will expire soon, I wanted to install the
new key with the extended validity:
http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/sernet-build-key-1.0-2.noarch.rpm
But the installation on a CentOS 5.3 failed with dependencies:
Fehler: Fehlgeschlagende Abh?ngigkeiten:

sernet-build-key-1.0-2.noarch
Any suggestions??

sssd-ad cannot be installed with sernet samba
The problem here is that
sssd does not know sernet-samba-libs is also providing samba-libs
or get the source of sssd and change/add the sernet-samba-libs in de Depens of the source yourself.
or ask the sssd developers to add this.
Its not that hard..
apt-get install build-essentials
apt-get source sssd
modify the needed in sourcemap/Debian/
apt-get source -b
wait... and you have your
