NT 4 workstation login confirmed by Samba?
...een to find a method which does not require the
generation of several hundred user accounts on each workstation.
Is this even possible? There was nothing in the user administrator to
indicate that it knew how to do a "generic" login with remote validation.

smbclient can back up WNT system disks?
...39;t touch
!!
! apply magic command to restore registry on restored disk,
! backup -> current
(The person who invented the registry should be tarred, feathered, and
then forced to repair corrupted registries on unbootable machines until
hell freezes over!)

1 out of 5 wnt 4sp3 machines acts up
...y ignore this message, and nothing bad happens.
They are already logged on, and aside from this one warning, the
machine works fine for these users. Or they can fill in the data and
make the box go away, but nothing changes when they do.
Any ideas what this might be?

Suggested 2.0.x version for PDC?
...hich of these, if any, I should try
next on our Linux server? Or maybe suggest what went wrong with the
2.0.x CVS when used with a known good (as of 1.9.19) smb.conf file.
Failing that, the next thing I'm going to try is to build the 1.9.19
samba on the Linux box.

Who's doing what?
All,
Is there any way of telling which machine is doing what job? i.e. Domain
Controller, local master, wins server etc.
I have two machines and two workgroups but they both appear on the same
workgroup. I think it is something to do with which machine is doing what. I
think machine1 is acting as Domain Controller & Master Browser for
workgroup1 and Machine2 is loosing all the browse

NT 4 sp3 audit + samba = total mess
...TFS and all installed software
defaults to everybody:RX. If one of the users tries to run this, Dream3D
starts, moans about "can't read file" and closes. It doesn't log anything.
If I can turn on auditing I can find out which file it tried to read.)

findsmb on Linux different than on SGI?
...pposite result)
Conclusion: "-r" is broken on the (RedHat) Linux version of nmblookup
OR it is broken on some versions later than 1.9.19.
Can anybody shed more light on this?
Also, is there something faster than findsmb available - it is horrifically
slow.

autoconfigure new NT4 sp3 clients, samba 1.9.19 server
...her words,
we'd like to let users have their own Navigator profiles, but don't
want to have to manually create hundreds of specific accounts. The
navigator documentation doesn't indicate that this is possible (or that
it isn't, either.)
