Updated: Sentry Port Scan Detector 0.60
Hello, I would normally not write this list to announce an update to a software package, however there have been a number of very significant changes to this program that users of it may want to upgrade and new users may want to check out. What it is =-=-=-=-=- Sentry is a port scan detector for Linux, *BSD, and most UNIX variants. What it does =-=-=-=-=-=- Sentry monitors your systems for port probing activity and will then take any of the following actions: 1) Log the attacker hostname/IP and ports probed. 2) Run external program. 3) Configure routing tabl...

Sentry Plugin - Easy Question I don''t doubt
I am looking at adding the Sentry plugin to one of the applications that we are working on. I have a need to store some info that will have to be encrypted and decrypted. I have been going through the docs for the plugin and the AsymetricSentry class looks like the best for what we need to do but I am not sure how to genera...

Sentry plugin causing migration to fail
I have an application that uses the Sentry plug-in. I am using Sentry on my Users model for encrypting passwords. It works fine inside the application, but whenever I call User.create in my migration (in order to set-up a default user) I get the following error when I run the migrations: rake aborted! undefined method `symmetrically_encr...

undefined method `crypted_password='' while using Sentry
I''d like to hear from some one who has been using Sentry successfully. I am trying to symmetrically_encrypts :password for a user model. It is a bare bones model just to test Sentry. I have password defined as ''text'' in the users table. I have openssl library installed on Debian Sarge. The secret key is defined in environment.rb. But wh...

[Sentry]-before_validation(model) not working for crypted-attribute?
I am still trying to get sentry working to encrypt a couple of attributes in the model. One of them is a password field and the other ssn#. I have crypted_password and crypted_ssn in the db. In addition, I also have validates_uniqueness_of :ssn Here is the problem... I get the error MysqlError: Unknown column ''ssn'...

Centos-specific Denyhosts Howto Anyone?
...ic perhaps being you just symlink however you want. Now having a time to spare, I appeal to you with paypal beer $. I'd like to of course script this specifically for centos. I have firewall rules and other protections, but it's (denyhosts) too cool to pass up. reminds me a bit of portsentry, or whatever they call it now, tri-sentry, maybe it's quad-sentry now or... I can also trade you some mega-spiffy ultra-detailed centos build scripts for tomcat servers, squid machines, etc. -krb

Asynchronous Encryption?
Hi Railers, I''m looking for something to do asynchronous encryption - where the encryption and decryption keys are different. This is for a scenario where I want to be able to store some information in the database that can only be decrypted in a different physical location using a secret private key (which will not be stored on the machine doing the encrypting). I''m trying

Dependencies.rb issue
I am testing the 1.1.6 on a new server that we were going to migrate to and have run into an issue with loading the sentry plugin. I think it has to do with the changes to dependencies.rb but not sure. I have Sentry set to load the key directories in the environment.rb file and on server start I receive a `const_missing'': uninitialized constant Sentry (NameError). This is working fine on all our testin...

[LLVMdev] Still Trying to Build on MINGW
...not the case on Unix -- compare the implementation of Path::isValid() in .../Unix/Path.inc to the one in .../Win32/Path.inc. Probably the right place to make the fix is in ArchiveMember::ArchiveMember() (Archive.cpp circa line 43). As per the comment this constructor is being used to make a "sentry node" in an ilist. In the initializations you will see `path("<invalid>")' which on Windows should be something else (perhaps just use `path("--invalid--")'. I'm new to this list should I go ahead and write a bug? Or do you have enough info here? Thanks.

[LLVMdev] Still Trying to Build on MINGW
1. I got the tools to build. Yay! 2. I got past all the annoying trouble with not finding header files. Yay! Now I'm having problems with this: llvm-ar rc ./libgcc.a libgcc/./_muldi3.o <and-lots-more-.o-files...> C:\msys\1.0\home\llvm_home\install\bin\llvm-ar.exe: <invalid>: path is not valid I'm investigating this with the debugger and so far I've learned that

New Program: Abacus Sentry - Port Scan Detector
Hello, I just made available a beta version of a port scan detector that I''ve been working on. The program, called Abacus Sentry, is a port scan/probe detector that offers what I think are a number of unique and useful features: - Runs on TCP or UDP sockets. Configurable by the user to bind to multiples of sockets for increased detection coverage. - Adjustable scan detection value with "state" engine to track pas...

Automatic blacklisting.
Hi, Is there any way to automatically block all traffic from IP''s that try more than X number of blocked ports for a preset amount of time? The log I get every morning seems to be getting bigger and bigger with port scans and attempts to access various services, it would be nice if these IP''s could be automatically blocked for like a week or two.. I wouldn''t want
