The ypserv(8) utility is a server which distributes NIS databases to client

There are two documented methods of restricting access to NIS maps through

ICMP
After the recent attacks on the major servers on the web my ISP has
decided to stop all ICMP messages from his ISP.
I have red the RFCs and it seems that he cant do that... As a result
pings and traceroutes will not work.
I need a friendly person out there to tell me a way to break the news to
him that he has to allow ICMP packets
through his network... any suggestions would be helpfull

Transferring boot sequence to hard disk
Hello everyone,
I use syslinux to make bootable USB sticks. I would like to offer the
choice, right at the beginning, to either continue booting from the USB
stick, or to boot as usual from the hard disk. Is this psossible to
do with syslinux ?
Thanks,

MS-DOS Magic ?
Hi all,
I've tried and retried to make some USB sticks bootable. I started by
making one partition, labeling it FAT16, copying a kernel, an initrd and
a very simple syslinux.cfg file. I ran syslinux /dev/sda1 on it.
Didn't boot. I tried placing on it the mbr.bin file ('cat mbr.bin >
/dev/sda') but still no boot. Then I tried various combinations of
these two. Labeling

tcrules: src/dest ports and proto error
Hello,
It seems that the following restriction is not shown in the online man page
for tcrules:
ERROR: SOURCE/DEST PORT(S) not allowed with PROTO all :
/tmp/shorewall/tcrules (line 2)
Please let me know if this is expressed otherwise in the
documentation.
Thanks.

USB stick won't boot anymore
Hi all,
This surely has nothing to do with syslinux, but since many people
here ar eusing USB sticks as booting devices (using syslinux) this is a
good place to ask, I think.
I have an Apacer 1GB USB stick that was happily booting PCs using
syslinux. But now, after some tests, it does not anymore. It does not
even produce some kind of message from syslinux when booting. Nothing.

syslinux: localboot error
Hello all,
I'm booting a USB stick (DOS formatted, one 1GB partition) and I'd
like to offer the choice of either continue booting from the USB stick,
or booting from the installed hard disk (Linux ext3). I've asked this
question here previously and Quinn replied saying I should use the
'localboot -1' option which would pass boot to the next device. And so
I did. The BIOS

TC: Simple and complex configs interplay
Hello,
From a user perspective, the simple (tcpri) and complex TC configs
offers two rather distinct choices. A user can very well be OK with
only using the simple way and that''s very fine. Then again, even in
doing so, the more complex config options are available. What is the
interplay between the two as far as having some parameters configured
in both at the same time ? So far
