Hi,
I've run many time e2fsck, but in a special dir ls tells me:

I wrote a test program to see if the fcntl() function can see the samba locks reported by smbstatus -L. I test it with 5 files opened at the same time: rob.xls (ms excel), rob.doc (ms word), rob.dwg (autocad), rob.sdw (staroffice) and rob.txt (ms wordpad).

Ubuntu samba slower than red hat??
...ean is the name of another user on this client machine,
but rarely used. It should see it as doug:data, which is
how the server sees it.
Also it used to see the files as

Now it sees them as

The new server: Ubuntu 6.06, Celeron D 2.53Ghz, one

The old server: RedHat 9.0, Celeron 2Ghz, one
80GB HDD with OS on it, one 120GB HDD with only data
on it, at least 3 years old. Samba is at least that old.

Non-standard S4 behavior
Hi all,
I've been trying out the code from Chamber's "Classes and Methods in the S
language": http://www.omegahat.org/RSMethods/Intro.pdf
>From my session:
R> whatis <- function(object) paste( "sdw" )
R> setMethod( "whatis", "vector", function(object) paste( "cswdvcr" ) )
R> dumpMethod( "whatis", "numeric" )

But the "whatis.numeric.R" file contains:

SMB mounting over ssh

I had much better luck, but not complete, with zannet.com's zannet.
Since I was going to a Unix box this was ok for me. Fewer things
locked up, in particular Windows Explorer appeared to be able to
read/write/delete files over the link, but NetObjects Fusion locked up
looking at the drive.

Controlling the order of /dev/sdX devices?
Hi
CentOS 5.4(final) 2.6.18-164el5PAE. I am trying to prevent removable
USB and eSATA devices from occupying /dev/sdX devices ahead of a 3ware
RAID controller. For example: at boot, if a USB drive and eSATA HDD
(connected to an LSI 1068E onboard controller, reflashed in "IT" mode to
handle hotplug devices) were both present, they would occupy devices
/dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, ahead of

/dev/sda
We're just using Linux software RAID for the first time - RAID1, and the
other day, a drive failed. We have a clone machine to play with, so it's
not that critical, but....
I partitioned a replacement drive. On the clone, I marked the RAID
partitions on /dev/sda failed, and remove, and pulled the drive. After
several iterations, I waited a minute or two, until all messages had
stopped,
