CentOS SDR Support
Several weeks ago, we posted a message seeking information about
time sources.? There were many helpful and educational responses.
An excerpt from one of the responses is included below.? We have
been following up with regard to how SDR capabilities might be
used for obtaining time using SDR dongles as well as using the
time source product referenced in that response.
Our SDR investigation has yielded many sources of information,
but not a source dedicated to CentOS support for SDR products.
Is there a CentOS subgroup and mail li...

Anyone using GQRX in Centos-7, for SDR ?
I gave myself a toy, one of those cheap USB Software Define Radios, and
would like to use it on my C7 box. Having wasted some time on it, I gave
up and installed Ubuntu on a USB HD so I can boot that to play with SDR.
The Ubuntu GQRX installation is well documented and went off without a hitch.
but I just hate having to boot something else on my main box (partly because
it also runs a mailserver for my personal domain, partly because, well,
I just want my box running CentOS, not Ubuntu.)
Searching through SDR...

Ah, thanks, that's the trick. works now.

Anyone using GQRX in Centos-7, for SDR ?
Is it a Realtek chipset?
I've had problems with it on CentOS as the system will load up the DVB drivers (for TV tuner) thus interfering with the SDR.
What worked for me is blacklisting them & reboot. Give it a try.
cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_rtl.conf
blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
blacklist rtl2832
blacklist rtl2830
BTW there's a new package at http://li.nux.ro/download/nux/tmp/gqrx7/ if you care to test and confirm success so I can...

C API: How to get a seektable for very long files?
Another SDR user here. It was me who reported the bug where total samples
wraps around on overflow.
FLAC performs extremely well on SDR samples, both speed and compression
ratio. In my testing it outperforms any other free lossless codec by a
large margin, being 20% smaller and 10% faster than the next best (...

I wouldn't want to use SDR as a simple time source.... SDR uses a /lot/
of CPU to make up for the lack of radio hardware. It would make far
more sense to get a dedicated WWV or GPS reciever to use as a time
reference, unless you're going to dedicate a server just to be a
software radio.

odd issue with ipmitool
...this morning, I started wondering if there was something going on,
hardware-wise, on the box. Installed OpenIPMI and ipmitools, fired it up,
and tried to do a simple ipmitool sel list... and get "unspecified error".
Ok, I said to myself, I tried ipmitool sel 1, ditto... but 2 gives me
Get SDR 0003 command failed: Unspecified error
Get SDR 0005 command failed: Unspecified error
Get SDR 0009 command failed: Unspecified error
Get SDR 0014 command failed: Unspecified error
Get SDR 0017 command failed: Unspecified error
and then a record. I tried jumping around - 200 (which I've seen as...

Replacing a file turns off group and world read permissions
I'm running Samba 3.32 on UbuntuServer 9.04 with both Ubuntu and
Windows clients as guests. For some common shares I have create mask =
777 and force create mode = 777.
This works fine except that when I *replace* a file on this share by
certain methods on an Ubuntu client, the permissions get set to 733
(-rwx-wx-wx), so the file is then unreadable (and undelete-able) by a
guest. The

That's a bug in the flac application. I think the correct behavior is

ipmi regression in 4.5?
I've been monitoring CPU temperature on a few Dell SC1435s running CentOS4
via OpenIPMI and 'ipmitool sdr'. It's been working very nicely, but the
upgrade to 4.5 not so long ago seems to have broken something:
# ipmitool sdr type Temperature
Temp | 01h | ns | 3.1 | Disabled
Planar Temp | 04h | ok | 7.1 | 30 degrees C
Temp Interface | 53h | ns | 7.1 | Disabled...

C API: How to get a seektable for very long files?
I am not an SDR user, but I think it would be a great idea to design and register an application metadata block for FLAC that supports these needs.
The fields in this application-specific metadata block could document how many files there are in total; which file in the sequence the current file is; what the actu...

This could be completely ignored by regular audio players - these files are not meant to be listened to anyway. Integrating 1.1-beta
Hello,
We've been using Opus for VoIP calls in Jitsi and we're very happy with
the sound quality it provides. Thank you for the great work!
We are thinking of updating to 1.1-beta and wanted to know if there's
any reason not to do so at this point, and wait for the 1.1 release
instead. Is the beta expected to be as stable as the 1.0.x series, or
are there any known flaws still to

C API: How to get a seektable for very long files?
...ac just returns the correct total sample value you can just
recompile libflac on your system and it will work.
Additionally I think there is one issue: there are only 31 bits for the
frame number, with a frame size of 4096 this is "just" 2^43 samples,
which maybe not enough in every case (SDR with higher sample rate?), and
smaller frame sizes are possible. And for variable block length it's
again 2^36.
Of course in combination with the last seekpoint this could work, but
without a seektable it's again problematic.
Best regards
Stefan
