Warhammer - Mark of Chaos
Hi... After playing a mission in 'Warhammer - Mark of Chaos' i get an error-message (access violation), when the scenario-map is loaded. In Application database i couldn't find a relating solution to this error, only some registry-keys for wine version 0.9.32. Unfortonatly, when I load them into the registry I get the error massage 'invalid parameter' during startup. Does

R vs. Bugs
A naive question from a non-statistician: I'm looking into running a Bayesian analysis of a model with high dimensionality. It's not a standard model (the likelihood requires a lot of code to implement), and I'm using a Linux machine. Was wondering if someone has any thoughts on what the advantages of OpenBugs are as opposed to just R (or should I be thinking WinBUGS under Wine?)?

Changing dnsmasq DNS settings for virtual machines
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi everyone, maybe this is an old fart, but I cant get it to work. I am running libvirt on a laptop, where a dnsmasq is already running to delegate dns info for my local (not-public) network. My resolv.conf (on the host) lists the system-dnsmasq as first server. I had to set the listen-adress for the system-dnsmasq to 127.0.0.1 and set

Support for Bayesian statistics in R
I'm just starting to learn to use R, and although I'm seeing lots of functions aimed at doing orthodox statistical analyses, I don't see the same for Bayesian analyses. What support does R have for Bayesian statistics?

slow loops in Monte Carlo Simulations
Hi there, I am running Monte Carlo Simulations in R using ordinary "while (condition)" loops. Since the number of iterations is something like 100.000 and within each iteration a given subsample is extended sequentially it takes hours to run the simulation. Does anyone know if there is either a way to avoid using loops in Monte Carlo Simulations or how to include possible faster

sharing NFS mounts
OK, I've been searching the archives and google with little luck... I have a directory which needs to be shared with a number of UNIX clients via NFS and with Windows clients via Samba. What is the best way to do this? Should I configure Samba to share the actual NFS mount? Or should I configure Samba to share the actual filesystem directory? Reason I ask, we were using the former method

Irreproducible exception in R extension
Dear R-Users, I am having some trouble running an R extension on our cluster (linux). I call C++ code in which I use a) the Scythe Statistical Library and b) OpenMP. Most of the jobs run without a problem, but some arbitrary jobs throw an exception of the kind printed below while running in a parallel loop. The behavior is to me not reproducible, although at every run of 729 Jobs it at least happens once. I already tried to en...

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -

SPSS 11.5
Hi! My wife needs the good, old SPSS 11.5 installed on Linux. Thanks to this forum, Wine is running as it should. But now I have a problem with SPSS: After starting the program (installation was no problem), I just see the frame of the window (which is empty - I can see the window behind it), and the first dialog screen in the middle of it. Unfortunately the dialog-screen (there you can open a
