Canvas Tag + Rails Ajax
Hi all,
Just looking for a quick sanity check. I was thinking of writing a
plugin for rails to give rails developers a good way of using the new
firefox 1.5/safari canvas tags. I was thinking of grabbing an
existing ruby graphics library and modifying it so that it renders
via the canvas tag..
So you could have link_to_remote pointing to controller actions that

NTFS is more resilient than ext3? Or is it hardware issue?
Hi guys,
I don't mean to incite debate or something, just want to share
experience and a little curiosity.
Back long time ago, we have an old file MS W2K (NTFS) server where due
no admin was available to manage it, the server would get power off
when the office closed, and auto power on again in the morning. That
thing happened for years and it was fine ^^
Recently, I setup a Centos 5.5 file

How to configure default NIC when creating Guest
Hi All,
I have a machine with three network cards, and the third card(named
e1000g2) is in use now. I want to use e1000g2 as default NIC when I
create Guest. How can I change the default NIC? I can override the
default value of config/default-nic property of svc:/system/xvm/xend.
But xend still use e1000g0 when creating Guest.
BTW, I can explicitly set "bridge=e1000g2" when creating

Indices and totals
...e goals and
non-goals of vorbis comments, but I'm still unsure:
1) Is it by purpose to forget about CDA's index feature because it's so
rarely used or did nobody here ever thought about it?
-> Add an INDEXNUMER field?
2) If "Vorbis comments are the equivalent of a quick note scribbled on
the bottom of a CDR", it would be nice to know the total number of items
in a series to be shure to have all parts together (at least I note the
total number of disks on the bottom of a CDR). So what about the
conceptually same:
-> Add a TRACKTOTAL, DISKTOTAL and INDEXMAX (not INDEXT...

grub (?) issue on Optiplex 780 A15, 6.8 upgrade
Most of the upgrades to CentOS 6.8 have gone smoothly. Thanks, as
always, for all the work that goes into making it so easy to upgrade.
On a few machines, however, all of them curiously:
Dell Inc. OptiPlex 780 /0C27VV, BIOS A15 08/06/2013
There is something wrong with their interaction with grub (?).
I noticed this after adding '3' to the module line to get it to

"Normal" plot and xyplot side by side in one figure?
Hi list,
I want to place a plot (eg "plot(1:10)") and a xyplot side by side in
one figure. The two columns should have different widths. If I'm not
missing something, this rules out the standard way: par(mfcol=n).
I tried layout(), but it doesn't seem to like it when grid scribbles
into its views (the plot works but the view for the xyplot is left empty).
I would

7.2 might have ate my partition table.
Well I thought someone might be interested in this. I have a Compaq server
with a cpq array in a raid 5 configuration with some bog standard video card
no sound card, NO X installed, no applications/modules not included
with the distro, and 256 megs of memory. I upgraded it (yes I know
not supported but...) from Roswell to 7.2 in the middle of
last week and installed all applicable errata

disk space issues...any help is greatly appreciated
Hi all,
Please pardon my newbie-ness on this issue....I've a / partition which
is full (quite suddenly, actually) and I'm not sure how to fix this.
I've searched for uneeded logs, etc in /var/log and /tmp to no avail.
The system is CentOS 5.2 and is not connected to the internet, serves as
a local LAN server running stock stuff...sendmail, dovecot,
apache..nothing strange or

[LLVMdev] Missed devirtualization opportunities
I took the output of clang, simplified it, and used it as a testbase.
Essentially, there is one class with one virtual function; I create an
instance and call the virtual method all in one function:
; The TestVirtual class vtbl
@classvtbl.TestVirtual = constant %classvtbltype.TestVirtual {
; Pointers to the virtual methods for the TestVirtual class
...
}
; ...

another seriously corrupt ext3 -- pesky journal
Hi Ted and all,
I have a couple of questions near the end of this message, but first I have
to describe my problem in some detail.
The power failure on Thursday did something evil to my ext3 file system (box
running RH9+patches, ext3, /dev/md0, raid5 driver, 400GB f/s using 3x200GB
IDE drives and one hot-spare). The f/s got corrupt badly and the symptoms
are very similar to what Eddy described

Torrent sharing question
Hi Folks.
Just a quick question. I have been sharing CenOS 5.0 and 5.1 since I down
loaded them. Now we are on to 5.2 is it still worth sharing them or can I
archive them to DVD and save some hard drive space?
Regards John

How to generate UML diagrams from existing ruby code?
Hi,
thanks for reading. Till now, I''ve used railroad to visualize my
models. But as far as I can see, there''s no possibility to add
information about the model class methods. Methods are only added to a
diagram, if you visualize your controllers. Is there a way to change
this behavior?
I''ve looked out for something else and found ''ruby-uml'', seems to

X-Windows Login
I have a server with all the x-windows stuff installed. But it's
giving me a text based login prompt on the console.
I can log onto the console, and run
gnome-session
and GNOME comes up fine. How do I turn it on so that I get a X-Window
GUI login prompt?

OT: MySQL Help
Hello,
I know this is off-topic for this list but I know someone here may be able
to help me out of a jam.
I ran the following against a table:
ALTER TABLE `products` ADD INDEX `idx_products_model` ( `products_model` );
Some things now appear broken but don't know if this was the culprit or not.
If I can revert it back it its original state I may be able to determine if
it's the cause

Broadvoice problems again
I had my asterisk configuration working very well with broadvoice, but
it stopped working this afternoon.
I plugged the Cisco 7960 phone I used for my origional signup (just a
few days before they offered generic BYOD) and it works fine. I did
notice it seems to do all of its comunication through
proxy.broadvoice.com (I used tcpdump). I have never contacted
broadvoice about using asterisk
