Samba 4.4.2 AD DC demote fails
...server, and I would need to keep its name because it hosts the
users' profiles and some other resources that have lots of GPOs pointing
to. The editing needed to accommodate a change of name would be
extensive and prone to error. Also, I don't have much time to do it, the
resources are scarse and the system needs to be in production again. The
Samba Wiki contains dire warnings about never ever connect to the
network again a DC removed by brute force. Will it be ok if it is joined
again as a member server with the same name? I fear that the cleaning
done by "--remove-other-dead-...

No, even if bandwidth is your concern I would say that --checksum is
wrong. Maybe if bandwidth is so scarse that a few KB vs a few MB
equates to dollars then sure, use --checksum. Otherwise, letting
rsync re-delta-xfer everything is certainly faster and not much more
bandwidth intensive than --checksum. Plus that is only if you screwed
up and ran rsync wrongly in the past. This question shouldn't...

expert: Modeling Without Data Using Expert Opinion
Expert opinion is a technique to do statistical modeling when data is
scarse (e.g. accidents in nuclear plants) or even absent, at least for
the analyst (e.g. confidential settlements in liability insurance).
Opinions on the distribution of the decision random variable is sought
from experts in the field. The experts give their opinion in the form

CRAN downtimes
Hi,
we had a broken heating system (in the floor above us) resulting in a
water burst .... my office looks like if a bomb has exploded ...
Currently our server is up and running again (it was down over the
weekend) ... but we will move out of the devastated rooms and hence
the CARN master might be down one or more times during the rest of the
week. We'll try to keep the down times as short

cupsaddsmb NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE
Hello,
I am using cups-1.1.19final-1.deb and samba-2.2.3a. When I was working
with cups-1.1.15 before, cupsaddsmb worked fine, but now with
cups-1.1.19 it gives me:
Running command: smbclient //localhost/print\$ -N -U'root%secret?' -c

Dynamic Programming in R
Hi R users,
I am looking to numerically solve a dynamic program in the R environment. I was wondering if there were people out there who had expereinced success at using R for such applications. I'd rather continue in R than learn Mathlab.
A concern that has been cited that may discourage R use for solving dynamic programs is its memory handling abilities. A senior researcher had a lot of

Normally, I would say that --checksum is actually slower than just
letting rsync re-copy everything and therefore is almost always the
wrong thing to do. However, in this case, you really don't want to
overwrite the running OS even with files that are essentially the
same. So, if the system is running from that storage then --checksum

add a point to regression line and cook's distance
Hi,
This is more a statistics question rather than R question. But I thought people on this list may have some pointers.
MY question is like the following:
I would like to have a robust regression line. The data I have are mostly clustered around a small range. So
the regression line tend to be influenced strongly by outlier points (with large cook's distance). From the application
