Scaleable LDAP Backends for Samba; Domain Controllers group access
OK, just went through the research on how to set up scalable LDAP backends. By scaleable I mean without having Samba use the root dn to access ldap. This way, if you are going through the logs, you will be able to tell which domain controller is doing what. As far as I know, it *HAS* to be done this way because the posixGroup schema is way out of date (it wont take a dn as a membe...

realtime versus static
>From the viewpoint of being reliable and scaleable, I'm wondering what using realtime would really get me. Given the number of additional things that can go wrong using realtime, I'm thinking about just using the standard text config files and pushing them to the asterisk servers via scp from a configuration server. I've also thought...

Scaleable Solution for small office
Hi, Have posted to this list a couple of times and have always received great responses and help. I have a basic * system setup Using 3 X100P cards with 6 Snom200 IP phones. It was a bit of a struggle getting everything up and running but have been pretty happy with the flexibility and ease of *. My major problem is one that has been discussed on this list many times before. The echo

Scaleability and Sharing of code between apps
Application 1 is an auditing application called AuditSystem. Application 2 is a quality control appllication called QC. Thank you Lars for the reply. Your instructions were dead on. Yes I have considered the security risks; however, I think scaleability and rapid deployment out weigh the security risks for me. Astricon Meetup
Everyone, I will be attending Astricon in Phoenix and would like to have a little get together to discuss Open Source Telephony and the challenges we as developers and system integrators face. Exchange ideas and go over some use cases and see how we can all work together to improve our understanding of the dynamics of how everything works together. * Scaleability * Reusability of code

Speed-up/Cache loadNamespace()
Thanks for the quick responses. As you both suggested storing the packages to local drive is feasible but comes with a size restriction I wanted to avoid. I'll keep this in mind as plan B. @Hugh: 2. would impose even greater slowdowns and 4. is just not feasible. However, 3. sounds interesting - how would this work in a Linux environment? lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now. I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start. It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel. Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore? Any solution?

...ut programmatically), fire off request and get results with zero startup latency. But more work to build the access layer. And Rserve is also underneath RestRserve which allows you to query a running server vai REST / modern web stack tech. (Think "plumber", but in C++ and faster / more scaleable). Lastly, there is Jeroen's OpenCPU. Dirk -- https://dirk.eddelbuettel.com | @eddelbuettel | edd at debian.org

I'm interested in learning more about performance, stability, scaleability, fault tolerance, and what hardware are you using. Thanks! Paulo H. speaking of /tmp races
Sorry if this is so obvious as to not merit mentioning, but I just grep'd for /tmp/.*$$ in /bin/ and /usr/bin and found a number of lines which appeared to be people making up tmp files with /tmp/appname.$$ as the name. Maybe my redhat 5.1 box wasn't a great place to do that though -- anyone have a redhat 5.2 box (or debian-current, or whatever) that they can grep through their bin

Analog Phones with Status Light Indicators
I am currently a new asterisk user and new to telephony in general. I have been looking around to implement a solution with asterisk that has many of the nice features of a proprietary PBX for a small office. The features that I am looking for that I haven't been able to find any information on are: - status light indicators for which incoming line in ringing - status light indicators for

Does anyone have any ideas of why this should be the case and what I can do to change it? I''m hoping I can get higher throughput if both of the
