Scaleable LDAP Backends for Samba; Domain Controllers group access
OK, just went through the research on how to set up scalable LDAP backends. By scaleable I mean without having Samba use the root dn to access ldap. This way, if you are going through the logs, you will be able to tell which domain controller is doing what. As far as I know, it *HAS* to be done this way because the posixGroup schema is way out of date (it wont take a dn as a member). This

realtime versus static
>From the viewpoint of being reliable and scaleable, I'm wondering what using realtime would really get me. Given the number of additional things that can go wrong using realtime, I'm thinking about just using the standard text config files and pushing them to the asterisk servers via scp from a configuration server. I've also thought about keeping the configs in a database but

Scaleable Solution for small office
Hi, Have posted to this list a couple of times and have always received great responses and help. I have a basic * system setup Using 3 X100P cards with 6 Snom200 IP phones. It was a bit of a struggle getting everything up and running but have been pretty happy with the flexibility and ease of *. My major problem is one that has been discussed on this list many times before. The echo

Scaleability and Sharing of code between apps
Application 1 is an auditing application called AuditSystem. Application 2 is a quality control appllication called QC. App1 has a couple of classes, including models, that i would like to use with App2. I would like a change in a class to be felt in both applications. How do i acheive this without copying and pasting code?? At the moment im feeling i should have made the whole thing one

Thank you Lars for the reply. Your instructions were dead on. Yes I have considered the security risks; however, I think scaleability and rapid deployment out weigh the security risks for me. Aggregate drops empty subsets
Greetings, R community. I am trying to create a multi-dimensional contingency table suitable for analysis by glm() using the poisson family. I have three factors, each with four levels, with some observed zeros. I'm trying to use aggregate to construct my contingency table, but it drops empty subsets, so the zeros get lost. I also tried tapply() but it doesn't carry over the main

Speed-up/Cache loadNamespace()
Thanks for the quick responses. As you both suggested storing the packages to local drive is feasible but comes with a size restriction I wanted to avoid. I'll keep this in mind as plan B. @Hugh: 2. would impose even greater slowdowns and 4. is just not feasible. However, 3. sounds interesting - how would this work in a Linux environment? lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now. I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start. It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel. Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore? Any solution?

Large Asterisk installations
Hi, Could anyone elaborate on using * on medium/large sized installations (more than 50 channels)? I'm interested in learning more about performance, stability, scaleability, fault tolerance, and what hardware are you using. Thanks! Paulo H. CDR Accounting/Billing Advise
...to Server B (if it's for an IAX client or queue application) or to Server C (if it's for a SIP client) and Server C will send to Server B (in case it needs the voicemail application). Overall, this may be more complicated than it needs to, but the client feels this will allow greater scaleability for future needs. Anyway, now the client wants to bill certain usage only when calls go to the PSTN or to the SIP termination providers. In other words, whenever a calls goes through Server A (whether in/outbound), the client wants to be able to bill for usage. The question I have is which...

Analog Phones with Status Light Indicators
I am currently a new asterisk user and new to telephony in general. I have been looking around to implement a solution with asterisk that has many of the nice features of a proprietary PBX for a small office. The features that I am looking for that I haven't been able to find any information on are: - status light indicators for which incoming line in ringing - status light indicators for

use or non-use of multiple processors in forwarding
I''m testing to see how fast A can ping C without losing packets. A -- B -- C B is a dual processor (Intel(R) XEON(TM) CPU 1.80GHz) machine. /proc/stat shows me that all of the work is done by one cpu, the other does nothing. Does anyone have any ideas of why this should be the case and what I can do to change it? I''m hoping I can get higher throughput if both of the
